Cover up for a straw purchase would be my thought. The “safe and secured” line is because in California if your firearm is stolen and it wasn’t locked up at the time you, as the victim, can be charged with a misdemeanor.

I suspect the guns existed. CA has had handgun registration for a *long* time and long gun registration for several years. If an unregistered (or non-existent) gun was stolen, why report it and open yourself up to charges for having an unregistered firearm?
If it was a handgun, I dunno for sure, but a trigger lock might be considered safe storage and a nanovault or other similar approved lock box would be considered safe storage by the DOJ (California Department of (in)Justice), but that wouldn’t do a darned thing to slow down a thief. Just take the box and open it later if you didn’t bring a screwdriver and a hammer. Doh!
Then again, she is a politician, so perhaps everything she says should be taken with a large grain of salt…

What it clearly shows is the brutal, irrefutable truth, that there really is no way to truly store firearms in a safe manner. They're just not safe anywhere. The only real solution is a total ban, surrender and confiscation.

The photo of the "burglar" looks about as authentic as Lizzy Warrens famous "I'm gong to have a beer now" video. The burglar looks like a Democratic campaign worker.

Not buying the picture of the suspect either. The guy is looking straight at the camera and doesn’t appear to be carrying anything larger than a candy bar, so I would presume this was a before shot. What kind of moron knows they are on candid camera and then commits a felony?
