I discovered this item in a box of old odds and ends. Based upon the age of the other contents, I judge this item to be from the 1940's - 1950's era. The hollow, blue plastic tube measures ~2" long x ~.500" in diameter. On one end there is a threaded metal cap while the opposite end has a spring loaded ball bearing which acts as a valve. Pressure on the ball bearing releases the contents; a fine white powder. There are no markings other than a raised numeral "8" on the metal cap. I initially thought this was some type of woman's cosmetics dispenser though the powder makes me wonder if perhaps it was used for dispensing medicine. Thanks for looking.

Is it possible the white powder is the dried-out remains of a liquid or gel?
Then it could be some sort of cosmetic applicator.

I was thinking some sort of marking tool for one of the constructing trades.

Instead of chalk or carpenters pencil .
