Nice! UTSigs is my first experience with mods, and his is sweet! Whatever you do, don't leave it with these guys , you won't recognize it when they're done. You've been forewarned!

Beancooker congrats and welcome to the most capable SUV you can buy in the US!

I bought a Gladiator Rubicon last year (sting grey) and am in the process of adapting it for long range overland travel. Just finished installing a 17 gallon additional fuel tank from Long Range America that will almost double our range. Put an Alu-Cab canopy on it last year and am building out the inside with a set of drawers, water tank, second battery and a fridge...

Methinks beancooker already knows about mods, based on what he did to his Taco. The Rubi is a very competent off-road vehicle bone stock. I took mine ('14 JKUR) up Elephant Hill shortly after I got it with not a problem at all. Elephant Hill, for those that aren't familiar, is a very difficult walk up, much less drive up in the Needles district of Canyonlands in Utah.

So beancooker, are you abandoning Tacoma World?

I might know a thing or two about modding vehicles.

As far as Tacomaworld, nah, I won’t abandon them. I have fun trolling the Friday threads, and it’ll be fun to post pics in the “where did you offroad today” thread. Are you on TW?

Nice. A friend of mine had a rubicon for 3-4 years with the pickup bed. When he sold it, he actually made money on the truck.

I have a 2 door Sport. I wanted as much of a base model as possible without actually having a base model. Less electronic stuff to fail & need to be replaced.

The great thing about Wranglers is that you can modify them to your liking. I only did a 2 inch lift and 33s. Also did a brush guard, light bar and light protection. However the modifications are almost endless. One of my best friends has a 4 door with a 3 inch lift and 35s.

My current bank account is the limiting factor but I am also happy as it currently is.

My wife has the same exact Rubicon as you. Just be on the lookout, we had to bring it back to the dealer with less than a 1000 miles as the engine developed a misfire in one of the cylinders. Apparently there is a TSB for this issue. They replaced all 6 spark plugs and it seems to run great now. She loves it!

Yeah, these are the Honda Civic’s of off road, there are so many aftermarket parts available. Everyone seems to make something for a Jeep.

Agreed on the wallet being the limiting factor. That and keeping Mrs. Cooker happy. She would have freaked out had I driven across the street and had it lifted and on 35’s when it had 10 miles on it. One of the conditions of buying this was that I won’t modify it right away. So I have a one year/tire wear moratorium on modifications. No mods for at least a year. No lift or 35’s until the tires are in need of replacement.

She has agreed that when I sell my Taco parts, I get to keep that in a reserve fund for future mods. I also have the blessing on a mesh top so we can remove the T tops and not bake in the sun.

I didn’t want to jump on Beancooker’s post but since you asked... keep in mind that we had some snow a few days ago and the truck is a little divert...

Yep, same screen name as here. My Taco is a '20 TRD Pro in Army Green.

I see some here recommended tow straps. Just a nitpick, you want recovery/snatch strap instead, such as ARB or Yankum or Bubba Rope. And you wouldn't want to pick the heaviest of them either if your vehicle is like a Tacoma or Jeep Wrangler because you'd want it to be stretchy under load, which helps with the recovery and less damaging to both vehicles.

For my Tacoma, I picked the 17600 lbs ARB strap.

I used to have a lifted and tucked 2003 Rubicon SWB. That's a mountain goat. On Tacoma world, some said they can follow a Rubi.. uh nope. I've driven both off-road and no way a Taco can follow a Rubi everywhere.

Also, in my own experience, of the 3 angles - approach, break over and departure, the break over is the most important to me. With approach and departure, you can work around it sometimes. But if you high center your vehicle with not enough break over, it just plain suck all around.
