There is no country music these days, itseems to be pop music, that got pushed over to country, because everything has to be rap. They have even tried to bring rap into “ country” music these days. Thank god for oldies stations.

^^^This. The man's apparently a monumental retard.
Wikipedia says the has a marketing degree. Doesn't seem like he learned a damn thing since he just pissed off a large country music fan base.

That, or someone bought him off. Given everything else going on these days, I almost have to wonder.

I wonder how far off this is. Soros is constantly looking for places to park money. He is a gun control venture capitalist. He fronts new gun control groups where some make it but most don’t. The “survivor” angle has worked really well for Gabby “please, please, please send me just three dollars” Giffords. Perhaps Church has been promised his own multi/million dollar PAC for flushing his country career.

Or another angle is that he has left leaning political aspirations as the left is desperate to find candidates with name recognition. Because they are convinced that is the only reason why a dolt (their words) like DJT got elected.

Since the "country" stations all went to playing some sticky-sweet fusion of country+pop+God-knows-what, I stopped listening to them. So I never heard of this joker before this thread.

Now I'm not likely ever going to hear his music.

Dumb move, IMO, given his listener demographic.

Yeah, I didn’t elaborate too much last night because we were wrangling our kiddo. But my thinking is this: Say Soros or whoever goes to prominent enterntainers for your average gun owner, in this case, a country music singer, and says “you can ride this wave and continue to gamble on your success and in fifteen years, you’ll be playing day three on stage two of tiny county summer fair and nobody will give a shit about you. You’ll be the next Billy Ray Cyrus. You’ll grind the road circuit, lose your band over time, and you’ll be signing autographs for kids that just want an autograph from the guy they saw on the stage while their daddy was doing demolition derby and they won’t know your name or remember it after you’ve told them. Because they won’t care. Or, you can not have to worry about the touring, the grind, the autographs and all the rest of that and live the rest of your life a far richer man, and left alone by all his former adoring fans. Take the money, and say you think nobody needs an assault rifle. Take the money, Eric. Take a dive.”

I developed a love for country music by listening to this radio station in DFW. From their website:

KHYI is a beacon of hope in the murky ocean of cheesy, generic, pseudo, so-called “Country” music. One of the last remaining major-market “mom & pop” radio stations left in the country, no one from New York or L.A. (Or Atlanta, in the case of Cumulus) has the power to make us play Jason Aldean, or Kenny Chesney, or Rascal Flattulence. We’re mavericks…and we believe the world deserves to hear Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, the Turnpike Troubadours, and the Dirty River Boys. We also think its impossible to be a country radio station and not play Waylon and Willie, and Hank (Sr.), and J.R. Cash, and Merle, and the Possum…but we digress.
We love our listeners and we keep it real. We close the bars on Saturday nights, but never miss church on Sundays.
We’re happy you found us. Keep it here for a while.

My opinion, but his music sounds like the same crap to me. That Springsteen song is a pop song and it contains the formula buzz words required by twang pop songs now:

cut off jeans

Saturday night.... Roll Eyes

Somehow the words "dirt road" didn't make the song. Maybe it's on the album version.

If his career craters because of this, don't worry. There will be another cookie cutter singer to take his place.

It ain't country if it doesn't have anything about:

mama
trains
trucks
prison
getting drunk...

Not to derail this thread, but another good option (out of Fort Worth) is 95.9 The Ranch. Great mix of Texas, Red Dirt, Americana, Folk, Bluegrass, etc. Been around for a while and is probably the preeminent Texas Country station. Always glad to find others though, especially when I’m over in...Dallas Eek

Eric Church grew up in the next county over from me. His family has money and he's never worked a day in his life other than playing music. His entitled attitude doesn't surprise me. I listened to his music some and it was ok, but he's definitely not old-school country.

Well apparently anyone with negitive comments is being banned from Church’s FB page.

He’s in full damage control mode apparently. I posted yesterday that he was going the way of the Dixie Chicks and today I can’t comment.
