Knowing little of current Russia and its politics, Putin none-the-less strikes me as an all-right guy. He appears to satisfy most of his people most of the time. I'd like to see him remain in power. A stable Russia is good for us.

Question:
Do you like Putin?

Choices:
Da (Yes)
Net (No)

I've never met Vladimir Putin, so can't say whether I "like" him or not. However, I don't like a lot of what he does, and I certainly don't support the Communist agenda.

I spent the first couple decades of my life fearing the reds were going to bomb us at any moment.

The cold war is over. There are much bigger assholes in this world to worry about.

Does Russia fuck around with us. I'm sure they do. Hell, all countries fuck with each other. But he's not standing on the shores of his country shaking his fist at us and vowing to wipe us off the face of the earth, so from the outside he seems OK.

Now cue the picture of obazm riding on the back of the horse with a shirtless Putin. God I loved that pic Big Grin

Putin is one of those folks you respect, but never trust. I don't care for some of the stunts his team has pulled but they got the desired results for Russia.

No, KGB, I don’t trust him, I think he would love to bring back communism again, install himself for leader for life. He may not like Trump, but I think he respects him, and probably wishes Obama was still in office, since he was really no threat.

How can anyone like a Dictator that has murdered 100's of opposition & media. Even those that have fled to other countries. He has influenced elections in many countries & has stolen billions from the Russian people. Without Putin's money & "advisors" Venezuela would not still have Moros. Putin has two objectives; Steal as much money as he can & control the governments of as many countries as he can.

Sometimes it makes sense to go with the devil you know. And Putin is a known quantity.

Even if the KGB has left us, he never left the KGB. It still lives and breathes in his heart.

He is driven by ego, another known quantity. Pictures of him on horses, with bigger, faster, stronger animals opposed to with our leaders, and videos of his Jujitsu acumen abound. An ego is quantifiable, and attack-able.

Money and power are also known quantities. His gas/oil revenues and quest for continued leadership of Russia, as well as it's modern day expansion, make him a known quantity.

I haven't been to Russia since the fall, but I see the same traits today as I did 30 years ago.

Murderer? Yep. Dictator? Check. Someone to be liked? Nope.

The devil you know...

Does he try to make russia great again? Sure seems like it

Do I respect him more than Trump? Hell no

Do I respect him more than 0bama? Yes

Would I have a beer with him? Yes, but I would supply the beer as I don’t trust him to provide poison and radiation free beer

Do I like him? Can’t really answer but generally I don’t like people like him

I wouldn't say like, maybe respect as a wily adversary. I have more respect for him than I - and many others - had for Obama.

I could mention someone else who established a stable society, but I’d be accused of providing an example of Godwin’s law. Putin is a murderer in addition to having supported, if not directed, countless other crimes and I’m not even convinced that Russia is all that stable as a result. Plus, such authoritarianism isn’t the only way stable societies can be established.

“ Enlightenment is man’s emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one’s own understanding without another’s guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one’s own mind without another’s guidance.”

Communist, no.
Dictator, yes.
Bad guy, yes.
Strong ruler, yes.

The thing that still makes them scary is they have nukes. Really the only ones that probably have the capability to compete with us at all in that department today.
Economically and size wise, a shadow of their former self but still trying to be relevant.
Being a better guy than Stalin, the guy with the second highest body count behind Mao but ahead of Hitler, doesn’t make him a good guy.
