The backgrounds of some of these individuals who came across my desk, floored me. These were people going to work in various Federal agencies, the military, intelligence, etc..

All it did was piss me off. Here I was doing background investigations or re-investigations on crap bags, who should never, ever been close to having a job like this. I had such a chip on my shoulder for years... I kept thinking of myself, and others I knew or met, that struggled to get in or never given a chance.

It also proved that some background investigations or a joke.

Someone said lucrative and pay.
My best friend's son just completed FTO for the Columbus OH PD. I could not believe what my friend told me his starting salary was.

I also couldn't believe how much Ohio State Univ. Police make.

I was always jealous of my friends and their dads who was make 70-90 thousand back in the day, when I was struggling to make 50,00 with a ton of OT. Same years of service--- Virginia vs Ohio.

Social media as in everyone has a camera now and it’s so easy for a cop to make her/himself look like a mental midget without much effort ? Sounds like a lot of cops are upset that illegal abuse and civil rights violations that would have gotten swept under the rug for the last century+ or been dismissed in court as a he said/ she said case and the cops would of course never lie Vs some local nobody are now out for everyone to see ? The camera is indifferent.

I will grant you that what is shown on social media is the worst most egregious cases of these bad cops. But again they are their own worst enemy.


Add to that an industry that literally fought all the way to the Supreme Court to defend and continue to hire low IQ applicants Is wild work. An Extreme lack of post high school education and life skills /life experience by most departments is required. Not preferred.

Like we see on a national basis in the military, the standards for hiring, retention, and promotion in law enforcement are set by those elected to public office and who THEY DECIDE they want to manage the organizations they (the politicians) influence. Want proactive police officers that actually look for threats to the community and provide LAW ENFORCEMENT service to address those threats? Elect leaders that want those kinds of managers running their agencies.

Want a police department that deemphasizes law enforcement and prefers to provide child rearing/sporting opportunities that were once handled by Parks and Recreation or the schools? Elect politicians that "take a knee" to those demanding police be defunded, corrections facilities be closed, and money (that once was used to hold offenders accountable) be used to provide more counseling to the increasing numbers of those being victimized. Of course crime stats will be deemphasized or ignored.

The community gets the kind of services (including public safety) that it deserves. If the electorate puts politicians in place that wants to deemphasize law enforcement, they'll appoint a chief of police that supports that philosophy. If the electorate puts politicians in charge that supports law enforcement as part of the criminal justice system, that kind of chief of police will be running the agency. Either type of chief will appoint officers, supervisors, and lower level managers according to his/her philosophy and insure that the department's policies and procedures will follow suit.

There’s more than a few of them out there.
They want to be “Insta-Famous”. Their little ego takes over. We have a few clowns that have stupid little tick-toc / instagram videos out there, both male and female.
We had one (and there’s probably more) that had an onlyfans account.

I said on pg 1 of this thread that Social Media didn’t ruin anything.
It didn’t.
It just exposes and amplifies people’s behavior. Often, they are bragging.
Just like the girl in the link above.
People, and their fuckin Ego ruined stuff: “HEY, LOOK AT MEEEEEEE!!!”

This isn’t just specific to Law Enforcement, it’s all over the place.
Bartenders, mechanics, teachers, nurses, office workers…

Then on the other side of the coin;
Videos of dumb cops doing dumb shit.
A few things-

Would a video of a bartender doing dumb shit get as many “likes” or “views”?
Unless she has a sweet ass and great tits, probably not.

Would a video of a cop doing his job get any attention?
A regular domestic, dog barking, traffic stop… would that get any attention?

I also don’t see people videotaping interactions with their butcher, baker or candlestick maker all the time.
I DO see people videotaping damn near every interaction with Law Enforcement.
