Once upon a time if I had a name and a single additional piece of information; an old address, old car, a relative, even an old flame and I will have your whole life in an hour. People really have no idea how much is really out there and just how stupid most of those entrusted to safeguard that information really are.

My mind is a Crazy Wall, my phone but a peephole...

They might spend an unsettled hour with my phone, but they will experience years of nights in fitful sleep.

They might find a group text with interesting information.

Same with mine. I have a dumbphone, got rid of my smartphone 5 years ago. I hardly keep any photos since it is not a great camera, just some leftover ones I didn't delete of grocery items that my wife wanted me to buy. No emails, internet activity because I don't have data, just phone calls and texting, the vast majority of texts include "went to the store", "driving back home", "yep", "nope", etc. No financial info, no forum activity or social media, nothing. If anything, my contacts list of phone #s is the only info I have.

I've been too cheap, but yeah especially traveling overseas. Lots of thieves everywhere looking for tourists. My phone is my portal to everything when I'm not in my studio. Banking, brokerage, emails, medical, everything.

It would be much smarter to have a burner phone and a separate digital camera.

iPhone 8 was the last to have TouchID. Face recognition started with iPhone X and all subsequent models, except for SE, which still has TouchID.

No, on the Unplugged phone. But I am sure there is an app for the IPhone.

The crazy stuff I have seen going through forensic phone dumps. People keep crazy stuff on their phones and don’t realize how much deleted data can be recovered.

I won’t let a person touch their phone during an interview if we are going to seize it. All they have to do is do a factory reset and everything is gone.

Afaik, when the phone is turned off it will require the numerical PIN to unlock even if you have enabled Face ID. It is so for thumbprint (my iPhone is an older generation).

I always turn my phone all the way off crossing borders. Same with TSA, and if I see a police checkpoint. I do not approve of fishing expeditions.

What happens if one always uses a numerical PIN and elects not to setup faceid or touchid?

Still that way today. I can do anything with just a name and a minor other piece of information.
