First, I'd drop to 5th as soon as I'm seriously contemplating the pass,
then down to 4th to spool it up when you're just about ready to go,
and then finally, grab 3rd & punch it so you can pass 'em like a 'Maine-iac'! Cool

I did just that this afternoon. Works a treat! Big GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig Grin

You can find your white New Balance shoes, jean shorts, and Hawaiian shirt at a retailer of your choice.

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I see Corvette has another parallel with Harley-Davidson: If it says "Corvette" on it, you can't afford it. $26 for a freakin' hat? Not on my planet...

This! - Other than the jorts, Hawiian shirt and white shoes..... LOL

I've learned almost everything I know about my C5 putzing around on Corvette Forum. Tons of valuable info there, and a lot of guys that really know these cars like the back of their hands.

Welcome to the club!

Thanks! I'm on the Corvette Forum, already picked up a few pointers.

Pretty C5!

Ah yes, the Corvette tax! Eckler's is famous for smoking Corvette owners with this. My '04 was not in the best shape when my dad gave it to me. Sadly he is doing the same to his '02 (the black one behind me in the pic above). I've spent more than I want to add up on restoring it, but one good drive with the top down erases all of that!

If you drive them gently, that is pretty much the norm. They are geared "tall" for top speed more than acceleration, the engine doesn't have to work hard - at typical freeway speeds it is turning maybe 16-1800 rpm - and they are very streamlined. For the "lumpy" idle, check for a vacuum or other unmetered air leak.

A smoke tester (you can DIY that) can help with vacuum leak locations.

I was also wondering what kind of benefits could be gleaned with an 'Eye-talian tune up'. It is an American V8 after all.

In the process of finding out why the cruise control isn't working, I found a vacuum leak at what looks like a broken hose fitting. I capped it for the moment as I couldn't find any unattached hoses due to time constraints.

That does seem to have smoothed the idle out. I'll take it out for a test drive tomorrow and see if that fixed the cruise issue, and look further to see what it is supposed to be connected to.

The purchase included the 2 volume Factory Service Manual which will be a huge help.
