BTW I'm a Corvette fan, have had 3, 68, 82, 86, then kids, and into motorcycles, don't care for the C8, not that it's not a fantastic vehicle,

Next will be another C3 body style.

You'll enjoy it, they are easy to take care of since it's all basic GM stuff, there are plenty of boards/groups on facebook etc where you can get tips, and cruising the back roads of Maine in the summer will be a lot of fun...

Congratulations Paul, that Corvette should be perfect for you. And only 20,000 miles is amazingly low, it's just broken it!

I wish I could have a sports car but unfortunately the roads here are not conducive to having a one. Frown

Better have some very shallow ramps to get under it.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

A buddy who understands the "Christmas Morning" aspect of getting a new car offered to ride down with me this morning and pick it up vs. waiting for Saturday. It was right at 100 miles each way, so that's a pretty good chunk of his day. Much appreciated.

Drive back went smoothly, no real complaints at all. Did notice a couple of things:

1. It has a distinct shimmy between 56 and 58 MPH indicated. Pretty sure the tires are the originals, so new tires and a balance will likely take care of that.

2. The idle is pretty lumpy. Almost feels like a miss, but it runs smooth as silk under throttle. Possibly just the Nature of the Beast?

3. The rear window in the convertible top is pretty cloudy. I need to look into expense/difficulty of replacing it.

According to the dash, it averaged a hair over 20mpg on the trip which is MUCH better than I expected. Even allowing for the usually optimistic computer, it should be getting 18 or 19 which is perfectly satisfactory to me. My truck won't do that.

I think you are going to need a 1/64 scale Corvette for your diorama.

Hmmm...a '69 Stingray would be about right. I'll look around...

Congrats on a great purchase. I still have my 90 (bought it 31 years ago) but it just sits now (yes it's for sale - but I haven't been trying very hard). The 90 model was an interesting transitional model - there was an early (84-90) and a late (91-96) body style and also an early (84-89) and late (90-96) dash design. So the 90 had the early body with the late dash. I think it was the early dashes people were warning you about.

Mine is Z51 when that really meant something - The Z51 was only available as a coupe and only with a manual transmission. They had larger brakes and quicker steering as well as 5 more HP (250 vs 245).

Enjoy. My plastic ride now is a 2013 Collector Edition 427 Convertible. Mine is one of twenty-eight Supersonic Blue 427 convertibles.

Keep the rubber side down.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Those years GM had a good way to check for fuel correction, if the "Block Learn" is within specs , not adding or subtracting fuel. Old scan tools like the OTC 4000E will give live data. If you really want to get in to it that deep. I would just run it and have fun Smile.

If you drive them gently, that is pretty much the norm. They are geared "tall" for top speed more than acceleration, the engine doesn't have to work hard - at typical freeway speeds it is turning maybe 16-1800 rpm - and they are very streamlined. For the "lumpy" idle, check for a vacuum or other unmetered air leak.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check that.

I did notice that when I dropped from 6th to 5th at 55-ish to go by a truck in the passing lane the response was less than I expected. More than adequate, just not the "Wheeeeeeee!" that I was expecting.

Also (from previous post) I checked the date code on the tires and it's 4019 so the tires have been replaced. Still old, but not ancient. I'll probably run them for this season.

Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

I'll remember that. It's been 30 years or more since I drove something with a clutch (not counting bikes, obviously...) so I want to get some seat time and get my muscle memory back before twisting it's tail.

Honestly, it's a step-by-step process when properly executed:

First, I'd drop to 5th as soon as I'm seriously contemplating the pass,
then down to 4th to spool it up when you're just about ready to go,
and then finally, grab 3rd & punch it so you can pass 'em like a 'Maine-iac'! Cool

This is my 7th Corvette and the first auto transmission. 2015 Z06 I bought last year only 4K miles on it. Try to drive it as much as I can now!

You might check for a vac leak that or maybe it just needs to get out and stretch it's legs some

The tires are big and wide, if they sit a long time flat spots can develop, might take some time to get them back to "roundish"

Its one cool ride...
