I first unfriended everybody who wasn't an IRL friend, then eventually unfriended Facebook. "America is at that awkward stage. Yeah, that M14 video guy... |
Nuke your account as well as Instagram, etc... I nuked mine in 2015 and it was a great weight lifted off my shoulders. One of my friends nuked his FB recently and he commented how much more he was at peace without having the daily poison of hate and vitriol that FB has become. It's everywhere and they don't like us. This and another forum are the only forms of social media I have. My wife nuked hers but then discreetly reactivated it so she could participate in nurse, nail and Disney groups, but she still sees drama. She doesn't have any friends, coworkers or family on her account either. Tony. Owner, TonyBen, LLC, Type-07 FFL www.tonybenm14.com (Site under construction). e-mail: tonyben@tonybenm14.com

Get my pies outta the oven! |
Very apt analogy! Now that I’m gone nearly 18 months, I’m noticing just how addicted to it people around me seem to be, it’s crazy. And yes it’s evil in that it sucks your time and attention away from useful things and real breathing family around you.

I never unfriended people, I let them leave of their own accord. At some point a girl I went to HS with (she’s a teacher now) went off the deep end about guns….she interjected herself into a conversation another classmate and I were having and we both let her hold it. We weren’t mean or name calling-just telling the truth no even began supporting the responses with facts….she unfriended both of us that day. A friendship of ten or so years, gone because she was unable to accept that she and her thought process might be wrong. I still chuckle knowing that she got so spun up. I’d just not engage with her we’re I in your position (assuming you want to keep the relationship), otherwise I’d go full monkey and drop some truth bombs while she withers under your barrage o truth. Those type of "interactions" are the exact reason I got rid of FB long long ago. It's not healthy to stew over crap like that. I do have an account with my "stage name" (no friends, no information) for my hobby of browsing the Marketplace for cars I'll never buy. -------------------- I like Sigs and HK's, and maybe Glocks

I don't usually participate in political discussions on FB. Nor do I really use my main account for anything other than to wish people a happy birthday. You could scroll my whole wall in a couple of minutes and I've had the account over a decade. I use it for car groups and other specific interests. I scroll right on past political discussion 99% of the time. If I do engage, as I did this week on an abortion post then I make sure I never call the person I'm discussing with names or say their ideas are stupid. If they resort to name calling, false arguments, or any other nastiness I bail. You will never win a Facebook argument. You will never change someone's opinion on FB. If they resort to name calling you have won, walk away. Remember the three above statements and your FB use will be much more enjoyable. I don't think you need to delete your friend, just tell her you no longer wish to talk about politics. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Skins2881, Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis

Left-Handed, NOT Left-Winged! |
Religion and politics? You know how that goes. Thus it was so, and thus it shall ever be. My family is all from NYC originally, and I grew up in Chicago, and went to college in IL. Various family members moved to SF and NM which isn't any better (and worse in many ways). A lot of people I know are die hard democrats, because that is all they have ever known, and all they see and hear in the media and their peer groups. They believe in caricatures of Republicans and cannot see people as individuals. When I got tired of some of their daily TDS postings, I unfollow them but don't de-friend them. In general I avoid politics on social media. I post funny things and check-ins where I travel, for the most part. Had I lived the same life as them, maybe I wouldn't be who I am now. But I left the democrat cities, worked in smaller towns, managed manufacturing operations, and have traveled around the world a lot in the past decade. A lot of travel has been in China, so I see how the government there works, how the people react to it, and how the democrats here are trying to do many of the same things. I have been reading Heather MacDonald's analysis of crime statistics and the lack of data supporting systemic bias in the criminal justice system for many years. She is brilliant and does not cook the numbers. After George Floyd, I was ready debate with data, but no one wants to hear that police killings are about 1000 a year, blacks comprise about 250 of that number, and unarmed blacks are maybe 10. The leftists are convinced that 1000's of unarmed black men are killed by police each year and that any interaction with police is life threatening. It is simply not true. There is no data to support it. It doesn't matter. Irrational people are immune to facts and logic and data. CRT SPECIFICALLY states that logic and reasons are "tools of the white oppressor" and minorities can never win playing the oppressor's game. So they deny logic and reason and stick with emotion and anecdotal experience. That's why they shout people down and call them Nazi, Facist, or Racist. The ability of these social movements to capture the minds of women is something I have been pondering. The only way to win is not to play. Or to play their game better than them. But we are acting like Brits trying to fight a proper war against an improper enemy. Demanding they fight fair and follow the rules is silly. They won't.

Thanks for all the replies. This has been a cathartic exercise. As far as FB goes this is the first time I've participated there since last year, and it sure turned into a shit show real quick. I responded to her once with sorry you had issues, but the fact is I no longer care. Many other friends PM'd me saying she accused you of racism you can't let that stand. I responded to all yes I can. Knowing its the right thing to do, but still quite frustrating. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

Do an Elon Musk. Tell her to stop hitting on you, that you are really very shy. That will get an interesting response. I do not have facebook. My sister does so if I want to know something about a family member I just ask her, like back in the day.

Go the other way... Post things every day that will piss her off. Ruin her day, every day. And sit back and laugh at the stupid liberal buffoon. But this is why I don't have any social media accounts. Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

There’s no point in trying to argue with a leftist over their racism accusations, they throw that out at anyone they don’t like and can’t win an argument with. Take my advice…go into your account…find the “DELETE” button and nuke your FB account. You will thank me in 2-3 weeks.

I'd suggest telling her that your life doesn't revolve around the issue of race. In most cases, race is irrelevant to the social/political areas of discussion you engage in. If that doesn't apply to her, then it's painfully obvious that she is by definition a RACIST, and as much as you'll miss the person she was, you don't like to engage with racists and won't in this case. Period. "I'm not fluent in the language of violence, but I know enough to get around in places where it's spoken."

Shit don't mean shit |
I deleted my FB account 2 years ago or so. It was/is great. However, my son plays football and the coach posts info and the videos on FB, so I had to sign back up. However, I signed up us a derivation of my last name. It's shortened. I have zero "friends" on my FB account. I use it for marketplace and the private football group for my son. If I get a friend request from someone I know I email them separately and explain that I have zero friends and explain that I have no interest in friending anyone. It works out great! I avoid all the BS, but get what I need. Don't be temped to friend a single person. Their algorithms figure out who else you know and you'll get bombarded with friend requests.

Well with full disclosure ~ I am not on FB nor will ever be. That being said to want to get off because of what one person said is silly, IMO. Plenty of good reasons not to be a part of that shit-show but not because of one persons opinion.

1) I quit caring about what other people think about me, most especially deranged, mentally ill, wokists. 2) I nuked my Facebook and Instagram several years ago. I figured it wasn’t worth the emotional energy, and boy was I right. The *only* time I even notice it’s gone is when I have something to sell, and thats nowhere near justification to keep it.

Racist? Yeah, I watch them all the time. sometimes three in the same weekend. Coca-Cola 600, Indy 500, the one I liked best was Monaco. Facebook? It comes in handy when hiring new employees or validating contracts. I don't use it for much else.
