Just got the call back after a biopsy that I have Basal cell cancer. Having them remove it on Tuesday. Had a spot in on the back of the head that turned painful to the touch and got it checked out. Guess they are going to use the Mohs Surgery method. They said expect a large scar depending on the size of the tumor. Anyone else had this done?This message has been edited. Had it done in my sideburns, thankfully not full on my face. You think there's no meat there, but that guy dug a hole in my head you could put one of those large marbles in. I asked him about his stitching and he said he was pretty good and would only call on a plastic surgeon if it was a large area on the nose or lip. He did a great job IMO. I just had MOHS surgery a couple months ago for Basal cell on my nose. I have a scar running 3/4 the length of my nose. They will cut out the cancer with a long cut more so than a deep cut. They will keep going deeper if the first pass doesn't get it all to the margins. I only had 1 pass and my margins were clear. Expect to be there a while. They will make a pass and send you back out to the waiting room while they look under the microscope. If they get it all they will stitch you up. If not they will keep making passes until the margins are clear. I was told that Basal cell is the "good cancer" if you get cancer because it tends not to spread. You never want to have cancer. But, I always say, if you were going to be afflicted with one, basal cell carcinoma is what you want. It's external, and the cure is almost always certain. Q | |||

I had two places removed about three years ago. One was on my collarbone, and one was on the back of my neck. The terms "basal cell" and squamous cell" were both in the biopsy. IDK the distinctions and don't care. I'm glad they're gone. Long story short, they wanted to do mine under general anesthetic, although I really don't think it was necessary, nor did my PCP. All told, I was in hospital half a day. Recovery was fast and without issues. I wish you good luck, fast recovery, and no more incidence of it. | |||

I had Squamous Cell on my face and they performed Mohs Surgery. I have a huge scar from my eye to my mouth where they pulled my face up my nose to cover the part they removed. An old girl friend (they are all old now, I guess!) has had 4 bouts, the most recent on her leg. She was off her feet for a bit, but I think back up and getting around now. She goes in to have the stitches removed on 7/3. Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me. When you had the votes, we did things your way. I was diagnosed with Basal Cell a couple years ago. Before surgery was done, the biopsy came back negative. There was a lot of people praying for me, so I'll do the same for you. Even if it is, you should be OK, as others have mentioned if you have to get cancer, that's the one to get. | |||

Get it done and remember to go in for regular checkups, every year or six months, whatever your doctor recommends. Make sure you have someone with you when you have the surgery to listen with you when the post surgery wound care is explained. There are things you can do to help the bleeding afterward, and it helps to have the supplies ready so you are ready. Have a couple of rolls of paper first aid tape and a new container of vasoline on hand for post surgery wound care. For those items, the dollar store stuff is as good as Walgreens. Mederma may also help with scarring. Ask your doctor if they feel there is a benefit to using Mederma versus vasoline. Good luck. Your doctor will take care of you, and you will feel better when this has been removed. | |||

I have had many occasions in the past five years to be grateful for good doctors. It takes a lot for them to get to the point where they can be of service in a situation like this. When they take care of business as they do, I am always grateful they chose the profession they did. This is true 100x when a team of gifted specialists takes care of your child. | |||

My bro-in-law just had this surgery on his face below the eye. Turns out the growth was larger than expected and they had to take out a half dollar size chunk. As it happens, this was two weeks before his son's big wedding. He wore a huge bandage for the ceremony and pics. You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier | |||
