Seeker of Clarity |
I had a huge spot on my cheek. 1.5" diameter. Can't even tell it was done now. No real scar to speak of. Took about 6 return cuts. They cut, check margins and return until there's no sign of the cancer.

i had the mohs surgery. I'm a yellow bellied coward when it comes to operations. All my anxieties & fears were for nothing. I had a spot the size of a quarter right between the eyes. They peeled one layer of skin, tested it came back for another layer and then a 3rd time they got it. I looked like a Hindu holy man til she scabbed over. I was told to use Aquaphor (sp) & she healed up well. I pray the same outcome for you. The operation was easy, glad I did it. Prayers to ya!

I'm on number 7 or 8, Basal and squamous cell, 3 MOHS and the rest just straight excisions, all went well with no complications. One of the downsides of a life at sea. Good luck, you should be just fine. MOO means NO! Be the comet!

Plowing straight ahead come what may |
About 6 years ago I had a "small" (turned out to be larger than expected after the "digging" commenced...my doctor asked me how far I wanted him to go to clean it out?...my answer was as far as need be to get it all...damn the Local wearing off) on my neck/chest...14 stitches worth of meat later he felt he was getting into healthy tissue so,he stopped. He told me it was more than likely from years of welding flash (it was right at the point between my welding shield and the gap of my welding jacket...pretty common area according to him)...he checks me over from A to Izzard every 6-7 months and all is well...sun screen and silly floppy hats are your friend ... Bottom line, you will be fine. No cancer is "good"...but this one can be taken care of with good results with minimal surgery. ******************************************************** "we've gotta roll with the punches, learn to play all of our hunches Making the best of what ever comes our way Forget that blind ambition and learn to trust your intuition Plowing straight ahead come what may And theres a cowboy in the jungle" Jimmy Buffet

My thoughts are with you. I had one removed from my chest 25+ years ago. Doc got it all. I see a Dermatologist every year now and i wear sun screen instead of baby oil at the beach, like we did when was younger. Best of luck. Niech Zyje P-220 Steve

I had the MOHS done a few years ago on a spot on my forehead. They had to go down 4 layers, left a decent sized scar after the stitches were removed. I waited a while to have it checked out, now I know better!!!

Character, above all else |
Exactly the same here. One under an eye and the other above the right temple. I now wear a 5-inch palm hat and sunscreen all year long when outside. "The Truth, when first uttered, is always considered heresy."

My wife has had many. Lost count. Mostly on her face. Multiple on her forehead... a couple that were large, cheeks, sideburn area, chest, once on her boob and one on her back. She had a wedge taken out of her upper lip from her mouth up into her nostril and then out across her cheek. Her upper lip is no longer centered and her smile is a bit crooked. She had about one forth of her nose removed and patched with some artificial mesh, a slice out of her ear and finally a skin graft over that done by a nose reconstruction specialist. I will say the plastic surgeon that rebuilt her nose is truly a magician after seeing what was left after the cancer surgeon finished. She has literally been butchered over the years but looks amazingly well considering. She does heal fast in general. The worst one was the nose, I bugged her for a full year to get a bump on the side of her nose at the site of a previous surgery before she finally went. It almost cost her her nose! DO NOT fuck around with that crap... get it seen about! My wife has been diagnosed with 3 different kinds at least over the years. This spring they did a chemical peel and that greatly helped the general appearance of her face. Her dad, 3 brothers and 2 sisters all have had issues with it as well as one of our daughters. They are all red heads to varying degree. Oh, and if that weren't enough she had shingles on her face a few years ago. She is 63 now FWIW. Collecting dust.

Eye on the Silver Lining |
My dad is having this surgery done in August, as he has 2 spots, both basal and squamous. I think you’ll be fine. Good for you for getting it checked out. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

I've had a some basal cell carcinomas removed. Best thing I did was start seeing a dermatologist yearly and now every 6 months since the carcinomas have started showing up. I've also done a couple courses of preventive topical chemotherapy with flourouracil on my head and temples which "removes" precancerous spots (actinic keratoses).

Thank you everyone for the support. I just back from the doctors and four hours later I am Basal Cell Carcinoma free. Have about a silver dollar size hole in my head but it is all stitched up. Worse part was the waiting and the smell of your own skin being cauterized. Took them two rounds to get it. In war, truth is the first casualty. My Pops had this procedure done twice in the past 10 years, now 72 years of age. NO issues afterwards. He and his best friend would get very tan skin at the shore when they were kids. Old men advise using sunscreen and not getting a sunburn. I didn't listen when I was young, so it's probably a matter of time before I deal with the same. Hope your recovery is quick.
