Quit staring at my wife's Butt |
A Friends bike had the ignition wires cut below the key, I guess they tried to hot wire it, I repaired the wires triple checked the connections but nothing happens when you turn the key on. The battery is fully charged and the main fuse is good near the battery I also checked the fuse block under the seat and they are all good. any suggestions before he hauls it to the dealer. the bike is a 2015 Yamaha yz rf r3 Thanks !!This message has been edited. Will insurance cover the cost of repairs and towing? I kind of doubt insurance would cover that but it is certainly worth a try. If it were mine I would push her on a trailer and have the dealer go thru it as already mentioned. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress. | |||

Is it worth taking some extra time, finding a wiring diagram and checking various points for power to troubleshoot it? | |||

First, I'd make sure it's not do for a recall. Ignition Recall Secondly, check the parts diagram linked over here to make sure you are seeing all of the relay's, fuses, and such. Electrical Diagram Short of any of those being wrong, you just may need to get a new wiring harness. Hope you get it sorted, I would be pissed. They may have damaged the switch internally during the attempted heist. With a schematic and meter you can work your way back through the connections to find any broken circuits, they may have pulled something apart further down the harness when screwing with it It should be comprehensive coverage (theft) I'd find out what the dealer tech charges, they can scan the bike, find the problem and file an insurance claim. | |||

As a modern Yamaha it more than likely has a center stand switch, neutral and clutch safeties you have to be in neutral or if in gear you have to pull the clutch in. Is there fusible wire somewhere in the wire loop for the ignition? If nothing happens (no lights in instruments, neutral light etc) then it's not a safety switch anywhere causing the problem. _____________________ Be careful what you tolerate. You are teaching people how to treat you. | |||

Thanks for all the great reply's I'm going to work on it tonight trying to trace it down, the odd thing I found is the lack of wires coming out of the ignition, I just expected allot more then 2. you guys are great!! | |||

I fixed it  under the seat, under a secondary cover that looks more like a tray to hold a computer module was a plug together connector with several wires running in and out of it. pulling that connector apart was an internal plug in 30 amp fuse which was blown. first time I have ever seen anything like that but you learn something new everyday. The smile on his face was priceless. Thanks for all the help !!!!! | |||
