I have this dish I made up years ago. Fry up some taters till golden brown, add chunks of ham then vegies. The vegies were a mix of frozen vegies. I’ve made this dish dozens of times, but while eating some of my concoction last night, I felt something that did not belong and spit it out. Below is what that thing is. Most likely a stem of something, but what?

Back when I was in my early 20's I had a girl friend that worked at the Jolly Green Giant frozen food factory. She said she would Never eat another frozen food again. Some 50 years later and I still remember what she said but did not heed her advice.

Looks like Flowering Cauliflower (Fioretto). Was there cauliflower in your recipe? Also, did you use a red sauce of some kind (although there is orange cauliflower)?

The frozen mixed vegies were carrots, corn, peas, green beans and lima beans.

The bag the frozen vegetables came in will have a customer service contact point.

Send them the picture (and the lot info printed on the bag) and let them figure it out.

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

Had a brother in law that worked at a Coke bottling plant say he would never drink Coke again. I asked him if he thought any other brands were any better and reminded him he had worked in the auto plants for a few years. He always complained on the quality of the cars produced bet yet he kept buying the brand where he had worked at.
Never heard him complain about Coke again.

What's the old saying? If you like sausage don't ever check into how it's made? Something along those lines.

It's the same everywhere. You should see what used to happen when I was on K.P. in the Army. If I wasn't starving I wouldn't have eaten it either. Now I just don't even think about it.

If someone is squeamish about uncommon events at food manufacturing/processing facilities, including restaurants, one had better start producing everything one eats oneself. And never eat anything in a third world country (or anywhere else, for that matter).

As for the question, yes, it’s a small stem of some sort. Most plants have stems.

I would say the fact that questions like this couldn’t be posted every day is because of the remarkably high level of processing excellence of modern foodstuffs. At least we don’t have to worry about milk being adulterated with chalk or other substances (as far as we know).

Dad was the veterinary USDA APHIS MPIP at a chicken processing plant. He vowed to never eat a chicken hotdog ever. I visited and saw the process making weenies. I tend to agree.

I occasionally get stems and other parts in my veggy bags, even with Bird's Eye brand. With as much production there is, you are bound to get something odd every so often.

You haven’t lived until you eat cat on a stick outside a navy base somewhere in the world. Cat, dog, monkey, who knows. That isn’t the worst thing you ever ate.

Anybody who is squeamish should probably avoid peanut butter, too, based on what I’ve read about the numerous contaminants allowed in every jar.
