I am grateful that members honor my wishes about the postings of mass shootings. From time to time, there are exceptions, for various reasons. In this instance, I want to talk about the efficacy of the armed citizen. In this case, the citizen witnessed what was happening, followed the shooter into the school, who, he knew, was armed with a long gun, and shot and killed the little bastard. Yes, four people were killed, and among them are children 5, 8 and 11 years old. Two others- and adult and a child are in critical condition. The shooter gained entrance to the school by blowing the lock off the front door, and he could have and would have done the same thing to the doors of classrooms. But It's possible that our armed citizen may have prevented another Sandy Hook. No one inside the school was armed, because it's a gun-free zone, y'see. This didn't prevent the shooter from having a gun, did it? But it prevented all adults in the building from having guns. There's the result of a gun-free zone. The anti-gun crowd always ignores instances where armed citizens make a difference, but they cannot ignore this one. Even the ridiculous governor of Oregon, Tina Kotek (National Labia Licking Champion, three years running) had to admit, in her own oblique way, that a private citizen armed with a gun saved lives.

I am really looking forward to learning the details of how the murderer was taken down. One thing I believe might be worth discussing is something I already saw mentioned in a Fox interview about this incident: the supposed danger posed by a nonprofessional engaging a killer because of where their misdirected shots might go. It took a few years of considering the question and a comment by another trainer concerning a related issue for it to finally dawn on me, but what is the far greater danger to victims? Possible misdirected shots fired by someone trying to stop the killing or the actions of the killer who is deliberately targeting defenseless victims? This is an issue that even professional law enforcement officers should consider when fretting over which cartridge is best to miss with (credit for that to jdjones). “Most men … can seldom accept the simplest and most obvious truth if it … would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions … which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabrics of their lives.” — Leo Tolstoy

This makes me angry. I'm probably going to say something that will get me in trouble but f it. Gun free zones are created at schools by people that want to see children murdered. There is no other reason why. This event proves that evil doesn't obey the signs and thank God this hero didn't either. We allow too much evil to stand in this world. Like sigfreund I'm looking forward to hearing the details about how this armed citizen took action, but I think even at this point it's pretty clear that he saved a lot of lives. Good on him for being prepared and also having the right mindset to go in after that guy and get the job done. This case also already seems to be demonstrating what I have said for a long time (and really piss the admins at the schools off when I say it)...no amount of locks or doors is going to stop a determined attacker. The only solution for a person like that is to use the same force on them that they're trying to employ against their victims. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

Insane how democrats keep doubling down on the free zone strategy that continues to tragically fail. As the saying goes about insanity thus they will never learn either. Are there exclusive schools in which the rich privileged attend where armed security may be available to protect kids? How often has a shooting like this occurred in one of those schools? I'm watching with great interest to see the ways in which the mainstream media will squirm, having to deal with the fact that an armed citizen put a stop to the shooter. Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around. — — — — — — — — — — — — God bless America.

Shortly after this happened I went to Gabby Gifford's site and sure enough, calls were aplenty to stop gun violence in schools. Not a peep about the Good Samaritan possibly preventing another mass school shooting. Their brains just can't fathom that good people with guns can stop bad people.

Well, this is in Bend. Wouldn’t surprise me if they bring charges against the good guy for going into the school carrying a gun because that’s the way the liberal mine works. _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! In Okaloosa County, we have armed sheriffs deputies referred to as school resource officers. The majority look like they could handle themselves, but at Choctaw high school there were a couple that probably couldn’t make it to the second floor using the stairs. If I could change the law, I would allow adults to carry firearms in schools. Beagle lives matter. ______ (\ / @\_____ / ( ) /O / ( )______/ ///_____/

I'm certain they would like to do so, but it would be a remarkably foolish maneuver.

Looks like our hero's name is Kaylub Giamanco, and his own child was a student at the school. His brother told the media that he feels guilty that he was unable to save the four people who were killed. Well done, dad, well done. You saved your kid, and probably hundreds more. I pray that God gives you peace about what you had to do. https://www.dailymail.com/news...-school-shooter.html It also sounds like the scumbag was shooting kids in the special needs classroom, including a kid in a wheelchair who was a family friend of Mr. Giamanco. That's some really dark shit. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

The two places that are most dangerous and in need of protection are schools and churches. My church also has an elementary school. We have started a crisis intervention team and we have quietly removed the "No guns" signs from the church entrances. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Here's the hero, and that is a word I do not use casually. Kaylub Giamanco. He has two daughters who attend that school.

Very sad for the parents and those traumatized by the events, but I'm more angry at the politicians and their platitudes of 'our children deserve to be safe'. There's a way to safeguard schools and a sign that says 'Gun Free Zone' isn't it. If anything, this tragedy put's another magnifying glass on the gun free zone fallacy. Even as the political left tripped over themselves trying to be the first to post their 'we need to do more trope'. It was nice to see them get ratioed in comments from what I scrolled through on X. I agree that Kaylub Giamanco is a hero.

The school district I live in has teachers trained to use firearms and those firearms are available in the school. There is a LARGE sign in front of the school that warns people entering the school that the teachers are armed. We also have school resource officers. Welcome to Wyoming. PC

Yeah I normally hate the use of hero but in this case it does apply to this man and the circumstances. What news I have watched they were very vague about what happened. I saw this am that he used a shotgun and since it was reported that the shooter had a long gun I thought I sure as hell would be laying the shotgun down and standing on it with hands raised to avoid being mistaken as the shooter with a long gun. Glad he was able to successfully take action in stopping the shooter before more lives were taken

Not to sidetrack too much, but I question if anyone is shooting open locks on doors with lead or copper jacketed bullets, or even with steel core bullets. Incidents like Newtown and Nashville had the perps breaking windows in or next to locked doors. I would think something similar happened here. This is not to imply that a locked door without a window will keep someone out, so it's more than a good thing that this father happened by when he did and took care of business. ---------------------------------- "These things you say we will have, we already have." I don't recall if it's statewide or a district-by-district thing, but TX has this as well. I've not heard of any near me that utilize it, either keeping it quiet or it not being taken up. I was a college student when campus carry passed, but my campus was also just a few hundred yards from the Walls Unit and was a heavily LE populated campus due to their CJ program, so it's unlikely any criminals were coming our way with ill intent. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huntsville_Unit On the OP, bravo to that man for doing what needed to be done & saving lives. Have we noticed that the usual suspects, the gun grabbing GDCs, have been silent on calling for more gun control? Why? The killer used a shotgun to inflict deaths and injuries. So that doesn’t fit their “evil-assault-weapon-with-high-capacity-clip” narrative. “All that’s necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”. Not this day, when a good man confronted evil and stopped it cold, before it could inflict more carnage. Q
