Prayers for Peace to be with you during this difficult time.

Two things bring me to tears. The unconditional Love of God,the service of the United States Military, past, present, and future.

I would rather meet
a slick-sleeve private,
than a hollywood star!

Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers and well wishes. Mom just passed away a short time ago tonight. I had been visiting her earlier this evening. Glad it didn't happen when I was there / wish it would have happened when I was there. Either way, she is at peace and on her way to see Dad.

So sorry for your loss, Scuba.

My very sincere condolences. In the back of our minds we all know that there is a very good chance that our parents will leave us in our lifetime but that doesn’t make it any easier.
Just take it one day at a time…

It is so difficult to see someone you love and respect suffer, so sorry you have to endure this situation. My condolences and prayers for peace. We are walking a similar path and I understand.

Hopes that the day will come soon you won’t hurt but rather miss her. Pretty much the same with my mother but strokes and dementia. She got to a point where she couldn’t swallow and had been in a state of whining and moaning as if that was her only way to communicate. Her eyes said take away my misery. Palliative care put her in a state of constant sleep and relief for her and us. It took about 5 days of no food or water or extraordinary measures, as was her wish, and we waited day and night. Finally, one night we stayed until 2am and all decided to go home and get a little sleep. The next morning my dad got there first and kissed her lips. He remarked to her that she was cold and it hit him. He called us to come say our goodbyes. That was 5 1/2 years ago. I miss her and of course have some regrets about spending more time with her but now I try to just be thankful she was in my life for over 50 years. Peace be with you while you grieve and beyond.

So sorry for your loss.
I know when I lost my mom a few years ago, I was also relieved as I know it was also an end to her suffering.

May God bless you and your family with peace. God speed to mom. May she be welcomed by family.

I went on the 50 mile bike ride with our 11yr old son yesterday morning for the last requirement of his cycling merit badge and it was a good way to clear my mind. I didn't tell the kids until we got home. Our son remembers my father's funeral 4 years ago, our daughters are too young to remember and it hasn't set in for them much.

After I got cleaned up from the bike ride my brother and I had my mom's nursing home room cleared out in 2 hours (to save the $400/day tab) and it needed done anyway. We had progressively downsized her over 3 moves from Assisted Living to Residential Care to Healthcare Center at the facility over the last 4 years.
