I Am The Walrus |
Some of you may have read my story of my home buying fiasco: https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...0601935/m/9630035384 We don't particularly care for El Paso, TX. It's too dry here and it's very far from big cities. We were looking to returning to Florida but it won't happen for a year. Not only did we lose out on 2 homes, we renewed our lease here. This past Monday, we had to make a choice of whether to stay or go back to Florida to no home and hope we found one there while staying in a hotel or Airbnb. Saw some listings for rentals but prices were insane. Some wanted $2,200/month with first month, last month and security deposit. With a wife, 6 year old, and 3 dogs to take care of, I couldn't take a chance of not having a proper size home in a safe neighborhood. The lease here expires on Saturday and come Monday we had to make a choice whether to stay here or leave. Fortunately this home did not have someone renting after us and the homeowner granted us another year here. Wife is depressed. We were looking forward to going home, thought we had a home lined up. It was a beautiful home with a pool and screened lanai. 26' moving truck was packed up, fueled up and ready to go. Had to unload the truck on Monday night. Home is stacked full of boxes and furniture wrapped in plastic. Still trying to process everything. Missed out on a great opportunity on a business in central Florida. It's the cards we were dealt so we will play the hands we have. Few times have I felt so beat up in life. Big shout out and thanks to Artie and V-Tail for being great friends. _____________

So you packed up all your stuff in a truck without knowing if you had won your bid on a new house?

Edmond, I'm sorry to hear this. What a bummer. That's quite a blow to have the moving truck packed and ready to go. Good luck in moving back in, and I hope something better happens for you in the future. The “lol” thread

Sorry to hear it did not work out as you had hoped. I know it does not make things better in the short term. But try to remember that these situations almost always work out better in the end. You guys will get there I have not doubt. When you do betting it is a better situation and the two of you will appreciate even more when it does. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Thank you Very little |
the market for homes in CFL is absolutely crazy, we wrestle with selling and taking advantage of the current market prices against finding another property at a reasonable price. Good luck and a year goes by quickly you'll be back in the game looking in 6 months if you want to be here in a year...

I don't know all the details of your situation but, as Mike Tyson says, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. But having said that, my career has been in planning. It takes discipline to measure twice and cut once and I like to pressure test ideas and coming up with contingency plans before executing them. What stands out to me is that you had a truck all packed up and now it has to be unloaded. I don't have much to help you especially since your wife is already depressed. I learned, however, that often disappointments in life can turn out to be hidden blessings that save you from bigger pitfalls. I have really come to believe that. As I've been telling people, if I had known then how I would end up now, the book they would have written about me would be titled "Faith Overwhelming" instead of "Faith Overwhelmed." "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Not really from Vienna |
People from where we live go to El Paso because it is the “big city”. Go spend a weekend in Pecos or Van Horn, and you’ll appreciate El Paso more. That said, I wouldn’t want to live in El Paso, either. So I’m sympathetic to your plight.

The deal was I would bring back large stuff for my Soldiers such as TVs, totes, etc. in exchange for them helping me load the truck. Had to during that time period as everyone would be leaving. _____________

Edmond, It can surely SEEM like something to be upset over, I understand the feeling 100%. Just keep in mind it only feels that way because you guys hyped yourself up about it. Normal human reaction, but nothing truly negative happened, you didn't overpay for a house, you aren't further in debt, you aren't stuck without a home for the family, you simply have to be patient. You never know, could have dodged a HUGE bullet with this market man. Keep positive. Keep your wife positive and enjoy another year of Texas. Born and raised in Pensacola I would choose Texas lmao. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

I love you man but get real. I’ve been to El Paso a lot and I’ve lived in Pensacola (pcola). Only a retard would prefer EP to pcola. Lol. I get trying to make you Edmund feel better but lying to him won’t help. Lol. You might have dodged a bullet in this market though. CFL and thereabouts have exploded in price. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Without sounding goofy, things happen for a reason. Keep your head up.

1. My opinions are purely that of Ottosig and in no way reflect those of my employer, sigforum, or other mofos. 2. I said Texas, not El Paso 3. Florida sucks the entire asshole. I'll give it 4-5 days at a time to visit, otherwise its a hard no for me! 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

Fair enough. I still like pcola. I travel Texas for a living. There’s a whole lot of shitty real estate between east and west. And wind. And dust. And some nice spots in between. Some. Lol

I read along in the other thread until the appraisal came back too low (30K low!), and figured you threw in the towel at that point. That said, with the extensive list of work and/or updates that home required, you're better off not buying it in this market. It VERY likely could have been a can of worms, and money pit with a big mortgage! Honestly, it may not be worth buying ANYTHING in this market! This is a great market if you have two homes and can make a killing selling one of them, but this is NOT a good market to buy into! As others have said, things happen for a reason, and this may well be a blessing in disguise. With a 6 YO, this should only be seen as a temporary setback/delay before you embark of the rest of your lives as a family. Keep the Faith, Edmund...Things WILL work out for you! ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! If I lived in El Paso, I would be depressed, too dodging bullets from Juarez. ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".

Edmond, often when one door shuts, another may open thats better. I'm leaning on the more optimistic side. I think that you'll do well after this seemingly rough patch. We had a birthday for my wife yesterday along with family members. Much of the topics discussed were many of the daily difficulties we all have been dealing with in just about all facets of life, work, homes, health, getting things done, everything seems to have an added layer of delays and difficulties. I hope that things get better for you and family. Yea, there are many good folks up in and around the Orlando areas, great members to know as friends. Regards, Will G.

Edmond, I’m sorry to hear it, man. I’ve got no advice, just wish the best for you and your family. I’m from El Paso. I haven’t been back since I left in 1997, not even to visit, so I get it. I am totally empathize with being stuck in a place your don’t want to live and wanting to move back to Florida. I miss Brevard county. I’d rather deal with hurricanes and mosquitoes than liberals trying to brainwash my child. Anyway, hang in there, man. I’ll be praying for ya. ______________________________________________ “There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ That is an understatment. While you are at it, explore West Texas. Marfa, Alpine and the Davis Mountains. Spent a week at Big Bend National Park. Really enjoyed it. Cibolo Creek Ranch is nice as well.

Sorry. We're experiencing our own disaster of a living situation, and it's forcing us to make decisions that suck. This market is just stupid. We're in a hard place, and a rock is quickly approaching. I wish you the best, and hope with another year to plan the move, you'll end up even better off. Housing crashes are coming, and perhaps you'll get an even better deal next year. That's what we're hoping for...in the meantime, I've had to exercise my displacement aspect of our insurance, and lease an office space outside the home to stay alive. Hang in there. Change is definitely coming to these markets. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "The trouble with our Liberal friends...is not that they're ignorant, it's just that they know so much that isn't so."
