If you ever have a chance to read “sled driver”, he goes through every switch in the cockpit and why. Fairly technical if you like this stuff.

I will second this recommendation for Sled Driver. Brian Shul, the author, is not only one of the rare breed of Blackbird pilots, he also has a wry sense of humor which is laced throughout the book, a very entertaining read.

Not to do a thread drift,but …

Mention “Buzz The Tower” and we all think the Tom Cruise Top Gun Scene.

However, there is a not well known SR 71 version by Maury Rosenberg. This is a cut from a longer video of a group of SR 71 pilots and RSO’s sitting around on stage talking and swapping stories. That video does not seem to be still available. Enjoy.

Very interesting interview with the engineer - amazing amount of design considerations.

Brian Shul gives a really entertaining presentation on how he became and SR-71 pilot and some of his mission exploits.

Highly recommend everyone watch this. I’ve watched it multiple times over the years around July 4th.

THAT was great. Most enjoyable, thank you!

That engineer is kicking himself in the ass over that math error. haha "40x15=600, no 6000 psi". haha! Simple error yo me and you, but engineers like him are perfectionists. That's gotta be eating him. Big Grin

And they probably did the math on this project with a slide rule.
Excellent video.

If any of you are curious, that video was shot at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo. They have an SR-71B on display and he is standing next to it talking about that J58 Engine. You may have noticed in the video he mentions the F-14 and points forward. The F-14 that 'Snort' Snodgrass flew on during most of his Navy career is on display right in front of the SR-71B.

I talked to this guy the last time I was there, He really is a neat guy. I stood right where he was standing. You could get that close to the engine.

I was a kid when the museum was first built. It has expanded much over the years. It really is a neat place to visit.

This video will explain a bit more graphically how the J58 works with the nacelle, inlet spike, bypass vents and tubes, and the convergent divergent ejector.
