I shot a match yesterday and I had to regrip the pistol several times due to sweaty hands. What topical cream/spray are you guys using? I would like to find something that doesn’t stain the grips or is hard to clean off.
I do not want to use anything that will fatten the grips.
Thanks,
Mike

I can't imagine a topical creme/spray is the answer here. What pistol are you shooting? Perhaps skateboard tape or Talon Grips would improve your grip.

I would wear a good pair of driving gloves or the gloves golfers wear. Do you naturally have sweaty hands? I don't think there's any kind of spray or ointment you can use that's going to keep your hands from sweating.

I've seen some of the guys spraying or rubbing stuff into their hands.
No chalk for me. Too hard to clean off the grips.

You don't mention what pistol but, maybe look into micarta grips if available. I swear by them on 1911s.

I haven’t been to a match since 2020. But some of the guys using were using baseball pitch for their smooth glocks. My STI has enough checkering all over the grip to not warrant anything even with sweaty Texas hands.

The man asked for a cream or spray.

I've seen many shooters use Liquid Chalk or a variant.

I prefer Wilson Progrip Max. I use it mainly when playing tennis, as it's designed for, but off label for shooting works just the same. I think it has a pleasant smell as well.

No cream or spray or gloves for me.

For polymer guns, grips that's equivalent to Glock RTF2 or S&W M&P 2.0 will do the job. These grips laugh at sweaty hands.

For metal guns, Hogue Aluminum Checkered or G10 Checkered or Piranha or Chain Link will fit the bill.

Not from personal experience with hands, but my dermo suggested this for feet.

I have not used this specific product: SweatBlock Antiperspirant Lotion for Hands & Feet - CLINICAL STRENGTH for Men & Women - Hyperhidrosis Aid to Stop Excessive Sweating - Reduces Foot Odor - Moisturizing w/ Aloe - Travel Size 1.69 fl oz

This I have for my feet, Carpe is another antiperspirant lotion.

I saw an older video from Hickok 45 where he talked about using skateboard tape around the grips. No idea which video, he’s done so many.

I’d not want to use that myself but I guess if you’re a competition shooter you might.

If it’s a beater gun that’s one thing.

My wife and I live in Florida. For years we shot multiple matches monthly. Especially in the summer months we would use a liquid chalk that people would use for sports.
Yes it made a mess on the fire arm you were using, and a mess of what ever else you touched but for us it was what worked best.
We used to buy stuff from Amazon however I don't remember what the name of it was.
We would have to reapply it a couple of times throughout the match especially in the hotter summer months.
This is what worked for us not sure how it would work for you.

Climbing Chalk (AKA Gym Chalk) might work.

If you don't like the idea of putting a set of Talons on the pistol because of the added bulk, buy a roll of 3M skateboard tape. Cut and apply only where needed. Don't waste your money on stippling a plastic pistol. It becomes almost useless with hard use.

Use Resin or you'll get a "Code Red."

On Amazon there is a lot of mess free chalks to choose from but doubt there isn't some mess.

I see pole dancers use them. I am sure they don't want to hit the floor.

Grip tape (I like the PRO texture from Talon grips) or chalk. Or both.

The liquid chalk that dries into a chalky mess is the most popular amongst competitive shooters. ProGrip is what a lot of people here use - it's also one of my favorites.

As for cleanup, most of us who shoot a lot of matches don't really give it much thought. Yes the chalk will get into the nooks and crannies or stippling on your grip. You could probably scrub it off with a toothbrush or something. I don't bother, because it's just going to come right back the next time I shoot. You can often tell at a match who's a match/competition junkie - the mag well opening is chewed up, the slide's finish is worn and missing, and there's chalk all over the grip. Cool
