I'm sorry, but that Potted Meat label is red, white and blue....that is too patriotic!

Or

The Potted Meat label has way too much white composition in relation to black...it's racist!

That would be the continuing lunacy of these people pushing this BS

Yeah, not the healthiest of choices, but in my efforts to lose weight and generally get healthier, I haven't eaten like that in some time...I'll bet I haven't had flap jacks in almost 3 years, although I sure could go for a stack right about now...with bacon. Big Grin

Agreed.
Growing up, Aunt Jemaima was a sugary sweet syrup, not a pancake mix. Looking at the bottle while eating, I never liked the image as it represented the slave mammy; the mythical, kindly, heavy set but, dim witted house maid. Same deal with Uncle Ben, not only was the rice shitty but, again it represented the obedient, kindly slave image. There's a whole back story of how it was marketed and several women played the role around at Worlds Fairs and school visits as Aunt Jemaima. Racist, I don't think so, insensitive, yeah.

That's the furthest thing from the truth. Aunt Jemima is a real person and one of the first successful black women in this country

Here is something that Black History Month doesn't tell you! They feed us b.s. and, hide the TRUTH from us. Nancy Green aka Aunt Jemima was the FIRST black millionaire! she sold her pancake mix to General Mills Corp.

"Green was born into slavery on November 17, 1834, near Mount Sterling in Montgomery County, Kentucky.[4] She was hired in 1890[5] by the R.T. Davis Milling Company in St. Joseph, Missouri, to represent "Aunt Jemima", an advertising character named after a song from a minstrel show.[3] Davis Milling had recently acquired the formula to a ready-mixed, self-rising pancake flour from St. Joseph Gazette editor Chris L. Rutt and Charles Underwood and were looking to employ an African-American woman as a Mammy archetype to promote their new product.[6] In 1893, Green was introduced as Aunt Jemima at the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago, where it was her job to operate a pancake-cooking display. Her amicable personality and talent as a cook for the Walker family, whose children grew up to become Chicago Circuit Judge Charles M. Walker and Dr. Samuel Walker[7] helped establish a successful showing of the product, for which she received a medal and certificate from the Expo officials.[3] After the Expo, Green was offered a lifetime contract to adopt the Aunt Jemima moniker and promote the pancake mix. This marked the beginning of a major promotional push by the company that included thousands of personal appearances and Aunt Jemima merchandising. Nancy Green maintained her job with Davis Milling (which was renamed "Aunt Jemima Mills Company" in 1914)[8] until her death in 1923; she was still working as Aunt Jemima at the time."

That syrup had the consistency of STP oil treatment, had a really odd texture. Tasted, well, not real good.
My mom used to make our syrup and it was a hell of a lot better. I'll just make my own from now on then.

More and more, I find myself divorcing all the brands I grew up with.

Pardon my French: fuck all these mother fuckers.

I solve that problem by only eating waffles -- the syrup stays in the depressions and doesn't ooze all over the plate. I think waffles are fluffier, too, and I prefer them.

When are we going to see manufactured outrage over the "black stacks" - sections of grocery store aisles dedicated to "ethnic" products? What, you think I'm too stupid to find my Jeri-curl if it is placed next to the Clairol?

I'm having a hard time getting worked up about this. It's their company, their brand. They made the business decision to get in front of it because they see the writing on the wall. They made the decision that it was better to rebrand than to deal with the woke backlash.

Straight up, exactly the point. As I previously pointed out in the Land o' Lakes thread, IF a corporation or business makes a decision to re-brand or re-market simply because they are looking to revitalize the brand or re-adjust to changing market conditions, I may (or may not) be disappointed, but as a private entity, I respect and accept their decision...it is these virtue signaling SJW companies combined with corporate cowardice who so readily surrender to domestic terrorists that irk the shit out of me.

Forgetting for a moment the stupidity in alienating a large percentage of your customers and investors, the precedent these capitulations set is not one that should be accepted.

Many governments refuse to negotiate with terrorists for the same reason that businesses shouldn't cave to these radical extremist perpetually professionally offended terrorists, who so readily spit on our history and heritage.

Not everything is as it seems, it could be Virtue Signaling, and it could be a strategy to exit a product name without much negative impact.

I'm not so sure they are caving in as much as exploiting the situation to run a marketing scheme. With all the BLM news, they can change the name, look "woke" get worldwide national recognition for being with the times...

It's more like people inside felt it was time to get the change done to prevent retaliation against the brand for it's name and heritage, and then react vs acting and cutting off the head of the snake..

That could be true HRK. They may have seen it as an opportunity to rid themselves of a potentially risky brand icon but in the process they have erased any connection I had to their brand. I bought that crap exclusively but now I’ll never buy a product from them again.
