I have a UE Mega Boom and love the sound. Not a tinny sounding speaker that you have to have cranked at full volume to hear 20 feet away. I can hear this thing from my garage in the house and it's a great sounding speaker. No distortion just great sound. I get comments all the time on the sound quality coming out of that speaker. Problem is batteries. I've already sent this one in once for battery replacement. You can't replace them yourself as the speaker is waterproof so it needs to be done by the factory service center. Now about a year later it won't take a charge again. I don't want to send it in again and I'm not sure I want to buy another based on the battery issue. So I'm listening to any recommendations from the forum. I want a great sounding speaker that I can hear without distortion. I have a pretty good case of tinnitus so hearing can be a issue. My son in law has a Bose that I wasn't really impressed with for the price. It sounded ok but it just didn't have the punch of the Mega Boom and couldn't be heard clearly (by me anyway) over any nearby conversation. As far as what I'm willing to spend I think I spent around 3 bills on my Mega Boom 4 years or so ago. I see they have come down in price since so I may still go that way if I don't get a solid recommendation here. "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S. Patton

I recommend Oontz by Cambridge Soundworks. I use it almost daily, and I drop it frequently onto hard floors and it keeps on playing. I paid $70 off Amazon. My coworkers have Bose and paid 3-4x as much for a more veiled sound.

Well, you've said you're not impressed by Bose, so I'm not sure you'll look into the Bose SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker II, but I really like this tiny, hand-sized unit. I take it into the garage, out into the yard, and pretty well anywhere I want good sound (solid bass, clear highs). Bose is currently offering them on sale. Another portable speaker I have is the Bang and Olufsen A2 Active. I bought it because my primary sound system is by B&O and I not only love the sound, but the design is unique and the quality is beyond reproach. We’ve been really pleased with our JBL Charge 3 and Extreme. Not sure if the Extreme is still offered, but the thing is a beast...musically and size. We like that we can pair multiple speakers using the JBL app on our phone... ___________________________ "Those that can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others..."

I'll second the Oontz. "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Nyne Bass. It was $100 at Sam's Club, plenty loud, good bass, and sound. They had them on clearance 6 months later and I bought 2 more at $50 each. That model has been discontinued, but there is an updated model with a list of $150. My wife wanted a bluetooth speaker, but I couldn't see spending the money for the Bose, so I bought the Cambridge and promptly sent it back. I wasn't at all impressed with the sound. Maybe I received a defective unit. I wound up with a Sony SRSX5 for $130 that sounded better than the $300 Bose and was only a little larger. The Nyne Bass is larger and louder, but still sounds good.

Anker Soundcore, lots of models on Amazon. 28 bucks for one that works really well and sounds good, 10k 4star reviews.

We have two Exogear Slate speakers. The bass is good, nothing outstanding. Overall good sound, not audiophile quality, but who are we kidding its a Bluetooth speaker. The thing I like best is that you can pair them and hang them from two trees (or whatever) and have stereo sound from two sources instead of R and L channel being three inches away from each other. They are also well shielded against drops, are IP68 waterproof. Batteries stay charged for entire day. They list at $150 each but I think we got ours at Costco for $80-100 each. Another satisfied Bose Soundlink owner here. I’m on my second one. The first one stopped taking a charge so I brought it to the local Bose retail outlet for a look even though it was out of warranty. The clerk apologized and handed me a new one-no questions asked. __________________ Member NRA Member NYSRPA

I'll go with the Anker 25W model. Link I bought this for the sound and portability and size. If you have more flexibility, Coscto sells these Ultimate Ears Wonderboom Speakers, two for under $100. With two speakers, it works in stereo. You can connect more than two. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. I have a JBL Charge and am pretty happy with it. I've had it at least 3 years - maybe 4 - and it still plays for several hours before the battery dies. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

Plowing straight ahead come what may |
I'll third the Oontz...I've had one for about 6 months...battery life is very good, sound is crisp (at least to my old ears), blue tooth range is good...the price is great for the overall quality of the speaker. My "POU" (now I'm sounding like "Nutnfancy" ) was a quality affordable portable speaker that would sound nice and be able to be be a portable buffer when needed, between the sounds of I-75 (about a mile away)...the Oontz fit the bill to a T...it's also water resistant in real life... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073...956011_t3_B079GPYJ3N ******************************************************** "we've gotta roll with the punches, learn to play all of our hunches Making the best of what ever comes our way Forget that blind ambition and learn to trust your intuition Plowing straight ahead come what may And theres a cowboy in the jungle" Jimmy Buffet

Told cops where to go for over 29 years… |
After using it for about a week, I will third the OontZ. I picked one of the Angle 3 Ultra models up to check out as I have not had any really good experiences with small wireless speakers. I was quite impressed with the volume and richness off sound this little thing puts out. Being pleased, I order a second one to us in paired separated stereo mode (one speaker gets left channel, the other right channel) sounds amazing and fills the family room/dining room area well 14w each so 28w for the pair. Two units for $68 +tax and really sound great. Now I am looking hard at the larger XL Ultra which is a bit more at $100, but each one puts out up to 24w so a pair would do 48w What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Well this is really becoming a saga. After several emails with UE customer service they gave me a discount code for 30% off a new Megaboom. I'm so satisfied with the sound of this speaker I just don't want to spend the money on anything else. So I went their website to order a new one. Figuring I'd try to fix my old one as shown in the video in this thread and wind up with two great sounding speakers. I go through the order process on the web site, I get to the last step to finalize the order. Hit the submit order button. The page refreshes but that's it, No order confirmation no email confirming my order has been placed nothing. Did I order one or not? where did my credit card information go? This was last Saturday. No one working at customer service. So I call on Monday only to find out customer service is only for technical issues only. So I've been emailing customer service trying to find out if they have a pending order for me or not. Of course the holiday yesterday put a hold on everything. Been watching my cc account daily for any unauthorized charges. Major pain in the ass dealing with these people. That Bose Revolver + looks pretty good I would like to hear it first though.
