Nope, it has not sold yet.

Thanks everyone you have come up with some great ideas.

My background revolved around the fire protection industry years ago. I was a service manager for a fire protection company, A part time paid instructor for the county fire academy in the county I live in in New Jersey and a volunteer firefighter.

When I moved to Florida I worked for that big entertainment company in central Florida. I worked a front desk, advanced sales work and drove a van transporting guests.

I also worked in a shop with mechanics working on heavy equipment for a while then helped a friend at his gun shop/range.
From there I went into retirement.
I was thinking of some sort of home based business. I have also been looking at business for sale in my area but nothing so far.
I didn't see the part about home based business. Go buy storage units or from auctions and sell on Ebay. I know several people who do this and buy estates just to sell on Ebay. None of them work a real job and do quite well for profit. You stay at home all you like drinking coffee, eating cheese doodles, watching Cappin Kangaroo and when your computer dings a sale, you make money. You can get the Ebay boxes for free if you like and print all your own shipping labels.

Ebay has been something I have been thinking about. My wife has been selling for a few years and does it as a hobby when she has time. I have been thinking of taking over from her on a more full time basis. We just listed a bunch of thing and they are selling.

I have a friend that is an Amazon delivery driver. He gets up 5am goes to work and starts delivering at 7am. They give him a full van, pay him for 10 hours of work a day. He says he usually finishes around 2-3pm. Gets to go home and still gets paid. He said he never has to work weekends, only if HE wants to. Weekends are either time and half or double time so there is no shortage of people willing to work weekends. God Bless !!! Smile

I was thinking of Amazon at one point. They have a very large distribution center less than 5 miles from my house. I know someone that is retired and works 3 to 4 days a week from 7am till 11 or 12. He likes it, it gives him extra money to supplement his retirement income and I think the schedule is flexible. I see Amazon vans in my neighborhood all the time. Sometimes 2 to 3 a day.

I put in a plug for you on Page 2, but maybe I was too subtle. Maybe e-mail him directly?

That makes for a bad plan.
Just invest in more conventional investment aka stocks, bonds, mutual funds etc.

That's what I did. So far, so good.

I can tell you first, its easy money, very much fun, you get to socialize with people, its not hard work. The buyers come to you. You relax and sell things. Some at the Market I've spent too much time at, sell WalMart, Lowes, Target Store returns and discontinued items. They buy huge gaylord boxes of good to damaged or returned stuff. One lady sells mainly small appliance stuff and knocks down $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 in one weekend. I help a old timer sell on weekends outdoors and he sells handicap stuff, wheel chairs, walkers, power tools, toys, lawn tools, pet cages and transporters, much more. He buys all his junk cheap at a huge Goodwill auction and turns Summer weekends into $1,500.00. This, on top of his $2,600.00 monthly retirement. Not bad huh ?

I did this some 15 years ago in Portland with a family member. Works well, until you run into thieves and crooks, and people's kids that break your stuff and walk away. Thefts galore when you have your back turned. And we made the mistake of taking a few checks, of which several were just plain bad.

Several of the dealers we knew got robbed/mugged of their cash when heading home. It was becoming risky.

A lot of the older retired guys around here drive for uber. They are usually pretty chatty and I think it gets them out the house which is a big draw for them. Maybe spend $25k on an economy car/van and do that.

A mobile notary is a decent side gig. $25 for 10 mins of work.

What about one of those “Pop A Lock” type mobil car door unlocking services?

Or a knife sharpening service?

Neither of those should cost hardly anything.

I think that 3D printing is going to one day find its place. Starting to see people selling some items they’ve made. Also seeing they will produce an item of your choice for you. Right now I think it’s more an investment in a company that has roots, then just buying a printer and making stuff?
