EDIT: I just searched Ebay with Cutco Jam Spreader Spatula., there are lots for sale. Be advised that they come in different lengths, one is 12 inches in length, most are a bit shorter.

We have two of those. One with about an 8" blade & a shorter one. We use them a lot.

BassamaticWhy all the hand wringing? A spatula works well and there is probably already one in your kitchen somewhere.

GeorgeairNow that y'all have sorted out the device, let me offer up a bigger hurdle. I grew up not a fan of PB&J and almost never went to effort to make one.
Why?
Because my mother for some unknown and sadistic reason deemed peanut butter something that must be stored in the fridge. Might as well try to spread Crazy Glue with your fingers as put that on a piece of white bread, also a curse of my childhood.

So technically speaking 10 or 15 or 20 years from now your jar of peanut butter will have 20 year old peanut butter in it...
Something to ponder...
You need to ponder that some more. It won’t happen.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." flashguyJust ordered a PB-JIFE from Amazon. I used to have a long flexible stainless steel spatula I used for PB, but it got lost some time back. I've looked in the big box stores for a replacement but never found one. (The ones for paint and putty are too stiff.) Will try this special gadget.

WoodmanGrowing up I heard an exasperated neighbor telling my mom that now
(her husband) was telling her how to scrape peanut butter out of the jar. "He was a bachelor too long", was my mom's response.
Evidently he had a technique involving a spoon ... but the details are lost to the grains of time.

My mom didn't keep it in the refrigerator, but back in the 1940s PB was not very spreadable. So she would put about a teaspoonful of margarine (we didn't use butter) into the top of the jar and stir it in well before making my sandwiches. (And I've never used jelly on my PB.) (FWIW, we used margarine because my dad was very sensitive to the taste of rancid butter and it only took a couple of days before he could taste it. I share that sensitivity to some degree, but in my case it extends to disliking the taste of any "spoiled" milk products.)

It was member David Lee that alerted us to the PB-JIFE. He ought to get some credit for that.

David LeeIt's just a peanut butter knife...

. I was going to suggest having a custom and tactical peanut butter knife made by one of Sig Forums knife artists..that would be so cool. I always get the smaller jars. That honey roasted one is good.
