So I am in DC for a few days of quick museum trip with the kids. Where the hell is everyone. See the Constitution, just walk right up 2 it, there are like 10 people in the rotunda. At The Museum of art maybe saw 75 people, no traffic anywhere. At the cafe at the Museum of art there were 3 couples eating at 1pm.

It's weird.

It's 930 am and I can count the cars on pennslyvania ave. I haven't seen more that 5 cars having to stop at the light by the DOJ in the last 30 minutes.

Come here in May, when all the school trips occur, and you will see. This time of year everybody is out congesting the Appalachian Trail/Blue Ridge Parkway looking at the leaves.

I worked on the Mall for about 18 months. This is definitely the best time of the year to be there.

I used to walk into any museum and stroll around during my lunch break.

Had many a sammich sitting at all the monuments.

Enjoy!

Another contributing factor is that neither body of Congress is in session currently.

The Senate doesn't resume until next week, and the House the following week.

According to one co-worker who hasn't bailed out yet (this might vary depending on agency); many, many rank-and-file workers who can are teleworking at home four days a week now. They are in the office only one day a week (or possibly more often if called in for something special). Managers may be on-site for perhaps three days a week max. Covid is to blame.

Must be nice. Had to drive through DC last week. Even drug my feet to let morning rush hour thin out a bit. No dice. Inside the beltway sux. And coming back at lunch? Same.

Apologies, I didn’t go into the office today and the security detail also stayed at home.

I think rat2306 nailed it. Most of the Federal Gov't. is teleworking.
