I haven't but I did recently had a conversation with someone who had spent several years there.
He had only positive things to say about it.
To be clear, I don't know that he was speaking of the city specifically or that general metro area and that may make a difference.
I have visited the area briefly and liked the general feel of it enough to have it on a potential list for myself.
We ultimately settled in SW Utah as we enjoy a High Desert climate. Ironically our Florida place was near Arcadia which is near you now.

The term "liberal enclave" has a map of northern New Mexico.

If you want that world without the liberal bullshit, move to Utah.

Isn't that the one where the mayor and/or governor banned carry of weapons unconstitutionally and had to be taken to court, where the DA screwed up the prosecution of Alex Baldwin and let him go free after he killed people on the set.

IIRC the mayor and governor did everything in their power to deny permits to Trump to hold a rally, and when they did permit him, they denied the parking to him for the event.

Great climate, awesome geography, easy access to more of the same and outstanding food.

As noted above, the above are the very legitimate downsides. Had a peer who lived there a bit, and a client I spent a lot of time with from the area. I don't think I could do it, but the positives might offset for you.

I'd love to know how y'all are picking your string of options for evaluation now! Wink

IIRC that was Governor Lujan-Grisham and that order only involved Bernalillo County aka Albuquerque and the surrounding areas. Santa Fe is in Santa Fe County.

On Alec Baldwin, well it used to be that a D.A. anywhere in the state could get involved to bring charges on criminal matters. I remember in the 80’s one time the D.A. In Bernalillo Cou Ty brought charges against a police officer involved in a vehicular homicide in another county that it’s D.A. Refused to prosecute. Never heard how that case ended up.

I used to vacation in SF and fly fish the Pecos. But the place has gone so rabidly liberal (with typically corresponding liberal issues) that I won't go back.

As suggested above, spend some time there. Take a couple of weeks and look at the place objectively. Don't just take the word of some anonymous posters on the interwebz.

Know more that one family/friends that moved there (NM) and they all seem to love the weather.
That is enticing but the Liberal atmosphere keeps me at bay.

If you're considering a climate like Santa Fe, and are serious about leaving Florida, I would check out Sierra Vista, AZ. Pretty good set up for really old folks, you could also consider something like Sun City Phoenix and deal with the "dry heat" Sierra Vista is 15 to 20 degrees cooler, might get 2" of snow, which shuts down the town for a half day. I remember your previous post and it seemed like you wanted to be on either coast at that time.

That's a familiar refrain by some in Kommiefornia re their supermajority commie govt and subsequent draconian laws: "But, but, but the weather's so nice!"

My stepdad's family is in Los Lunas, south of Albuquerque.
We've only visited a couple times, and always in the winter [Thanksgiving/Christmas], but it was a nice place to visit for the little we saw of it.

My sister worked at a church camp in Glorietta [IIRC] and she enjoyed her time there as well. Don't think they got over to Santa Fe too often.

I've been to Santa Fe for the past 6 or 7 years for an annual work conference.

It's at 7,200' elevation. It has legit winters. It has some nice paved bike/walk paths. Downtown SF is only art galleries, trinket shops, a couple museums, and tourist.

I believe it's called the Cabrillo Highway that heads southwest out of town and has it strip malls. There are a couple outlet stores in that area. The landscape look is crusty weeds, dirt and rock. That's not a knock on them, it's just the motif. I appears there are plenty of hobby ranches around the area. And between ABQ and SF, there are little towns.

SF is flaming liberal. I'd suggest visiting and checking things out.

ABQ is super easy to get in and out of. SF is 50 minutes from airport rental car.

In the 1980s, I spent time in SF. Beautiful weather, high desert scenery, and good vibe. When I looked at places to retire several years ago, I briefly considered SF, did my research, and decided that it had gone far left and become quite expensive in the intervening decades. Somewhat akin to what happened to Maine where I served with the Air Force in the 1970s. Solidly Republican at the time and relatively prosperous. Now Maine has turned left, lost population, and seems to depend on wealthy retirees largely along the coast and around the Portland area. In the end I chose to retire in the Low Country of SC which offered lower taxes and better healthcare than SF.

My daughter lives in Santa Fe. It is expensive. The city’s living wage keeps a lot of fast food restaurants and mom and pa stores out. With the state being so poor, housing is outrageous. The city’s has an almost stagnant growth. As many people move out as move in. The locals are pissed cause they can hardly afford to live in their own city. Lots of left coast and east cost liberals, large art community and hordes of politicians. If you are not a member of any of those groups you are a social pariah. It has a rich history and lots of culture but the liberalism is eating away at the culture.

My 35 year old niece & her husband moved to Santa Fe 2 years ago from Brooklyn. Both were working in Manhattan about 10 years and wanted to escape. He grew up in Austin & my niece had only lived in New York City, Boston, Brussels, Singapore & Minneapolis. She could barely drive and both were not used to a small city. Adjustment was difficult.

I live about 45 minutes south of Santa Fe. What exactly would you like to know? The governor is a POS, we are working on that. I like living in the state. If you’re interested in city living, I would look elsewhere. If you like rural living, and would like to get some acreage, the state is very good for that. Land around the Santa Fe area may not be very cheap, though. I much prefer the area where I live. I’m about 25 minutes from Albuquerque and 45 from Santa Fe. If you want more details, shoot me an email.

It is a gorgeous area and the food is fantastic in NM. Based on where you live now, the weather would be a huge upgrade. Also, way fewer bugs.

If you were dead set against dealing with liberal government BS, I would look elsewhere. It’s an ongoing fight with us. However, I would not say we are totally lost like California or others. Northern New Mexico is full of hippie culture. Good if you are into the arts, not so much if you are into rights.

I have visited Santa Fe a few times in the last 6 years on business and yes, it is strong lefty. There are left leaning towns that have that leftist vibe about it- Portland, San Francisco, etc. and Santa Fe has that. Excellent restaurants, cool scenery. But during my days there, I kept quiet about my political proclivities around my clients and other people in the hotels, etc. In my experience, they are not quiet about theirs.

SIL, a lefty, lives on acreage 15 miles outside the city. She has plenty of trouble with trespassers on dirt bikes and four wheelers. They’ve cut her fence to gain access. They taunt her when she confronts them. The sheriff dept has been no help, apparently.
