My wife's aunt and uncle lived there for a while and we visited a few times.

Geographically it's a beautiful area, much nicer than Albuquerque, and pretty quaint with it's adobe-style architecture. It is a hippy-dippy lefty place, but I'd rather live there than NYC or Seattle, which I recall you were also considering. It is pretty high in elevation, so there will be snow in the winter.

Personally, if I wanted the western ambiance that Santa Fe offers, I'd look at northern Arizona or Utah. Even prettier, and better weather and politics.

I don't live in Santa Fe, but I've been there many times, sight seeing, shopping or hiking in the mountains.

Santa Fe is a very nice place, nice people. Lots to see and do. Summers are not very hot, because of the high altitude. Winters are mostly mild except in the mountains. Take a visit and see for yourself.

Tornadoes are quite rare out here, BUT I have seen one in person. It dropped right down from the clouds next to the Sandia Crest. I saw it while driving to ABQ on I40. It was one of the strangest weather events I've ever seen.
