What is your passion project or hobby? Use this thread to share what you love to do! This is a great community and I'd love to support you guys.

I have multiple hobbies but a few of those are passions. Two that I am doubling effort on are my car and smoking meat/cooking in general.

I've run a youtube channel for year, but its really started growing as I put out regular content.
@lastminuteracing3000

The second passion is SouthernSmokeLab. I've been smoking meats almost weekly for a few years and wanted a place to share my cooks and recipes.

Link to my smoked deviled egg and candied bacon recipe.

Had to watch it twice to realize your VR4 wasn't supercharged.
She had the note & timing just right to sound like a S/C

Cars & racing are my passions, but I just don't have the time/$$ to really pursue it.
The Midget is cheap enough to tinker around with & have some fun.

I think that is one thing missing from my life is having "that" passion.

I have things I like, but never really a super passion for anything is particular.

Close! She has twin turbos. Specifically I'm running WRX 13T's. I have DR750's and a built 3.1L to go in when I'm ready to do the swap. Should put me around 640awhp.

I don't have the money either, but budget for 2 HPDE events per year and all that goes into that. We also have a yearly event at the Tail of the Dragon. Midgets are great cars!

I knew a guy with a VR4 in college, beast of an underrated car.
Just meant her reaction sounded a lot like a S/C & went along with each gear. Cute.

I know a group of guys that do an annual Dragon trip. Bit of a haul [950 miles 1 way] from Houston & would likely need to trailer the Midget up there. Would be an even longer trip to do at 60-70mph, since the little Midge doesn't much like speeds over 70.

No worries, man! The speed limit on the Dragon is nowhere near that 60-70.
I saw a fella pulled over there one afternoon... Trooper was MIGHTY animated! I kinda felt sorry for the driver, for he was really catching it. Then again, he had earned it. Wink

ETA: Oops! Now I see what you were saying... the trip to the Dragon would be a long one, not being able to run at over 70.
Maybe I should shut up and go back to drooling over that smoked deviled egg and candied bacon!

Yeah, it's the 950 miles out there. Not sure the Midget would even make part of that distance currently, much less when it's warmer ambient temps.
Maybe if I made it a week long trip & just took my time getting out there, but not sure I could make that happen.

The group I know is almost all in higher end sports cars: BMW Ms, CTS-V, S2000, V70R, stuff like that [and a Tesla 3 Razz ]
Told them I'd run sweep, since I'd definitely be at the back of the group.

P250USA5 its an awesome for sure! That would be a miserable drive from TX. Your only option would be towing there which I've had a friend do.

Here's my car at the dragon.

Passion? I don't think it quite extends to that definition, but I REALLY enjoy model and diorama building.

I've posted links to some of my efforts here in the past.

This started as a commonly available '50 Chevy truck kit. I built it as a NAAPCO 4wd conversion. I rarely build anything straight out of the box any more, more fun to create something unique. I build cars and trucks in 1:24 or 1:25 scale.

This is a log truck that started as an Autocar dump truck kit. Frame is stretched and log loader is scratch built using plastic shapes and 3D printed parts.

This is my 1:64 scale farm diorama, which is a mixture of kits, diecast toys and scratchbuilt structures and toys. I add to it pretty much every Winter as ideas occur.

I enjoy riding motorcycles, nothing better than cruising along a remote country road enjoying the awesomeness of God's creation. I've seen amazing scenery at Yellowstone, Glacier and Badlands Natl Parks. I've enjoyed some cool roads like Rattlesnake Grade in Idaho, Tail of the Dragon and Back of the Dragon, Cherahola Skyway and dozens of other tight twisty roads. There's just something different about enjoying the outdoors on two wheels compared to four.

PHPaul your attention to detail is crazy. How big is the entire diorama? I subscribed.

Thanks, I've had a LOT of fun building it. It's 48 by 65 inches at the moment. Sadly, I'm pretty much out of room because I'd really like to add to it. I'll have to make do with adding more details as they occur to me.

I find materials for store displays.

The extra money I make off of it helped when fixing up an old Viper.

Interesting. Materials to construct the displays, or items to display?

Now, refurbishing an F-16 fighter would definitely be cool. Razz

Haven't had to get one of those. They are too hard to parallel park. Wink

Kind of both.

I've had to find hydrants, LED streetlights, an Underwood #5 typewriter from 1919, a Vibratone horn, vintage toys, etc.

It gets more interesting when we use mannequins and scarecrows. We dress them up in clothes and shoes that aren't in the clients inventory.

The clothes are easy to find at Goodwill. Shoes are a different story. If I get newer shoes, they are likely to go missing. If they are worn out, they stay put.

It got to be common enough that we would buy what we needed and then pay someone to wear them until they aren't repairable. Seems to be cheaper than buying two pair when the first one goes missing.

Sounds crazy, but right now I have three guys who are to be paid to wear $1,200 Gucci flip flops if they can wear them out in a few years (unless a client wants them in a display sooner).

Last year I had to find identical gator tail cowboy boots in sizes 9 through 15 for mannequins five to seven feet tall. Then had to find a few guys in each size who would want to wear them for all they are worth.

Been doing this since 2008 and the most interesting thing I had to get was a left rear corner of a Nissan Maxima. Including the tail light, carpeting, trunk lid seal, all of it. Cut from the center of the license plate frame across to the rear lip of the wheel well.

Not sure if you'd call this a hobby, but my wife and I teach the Basic Rider Course for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation at 4 different colleges across 4 counties. Per the NC MSF headquarters we are required to teach at least 3 classes per calendar year. Last year we taught 24 and this year we're scheduled to teach 21 so far. So apparently we enjoy it.

Oh, I also collect Civil War weapons. Mainly Confederate but I have a smattering of other revolvers, sabers, swords, etc.
