Publix is a fine example of the efficacy of employee owned businesses. First rate quality and service always. There are over 1200 Publix stores and they are expanding.

Though they are a bit of a weird deal at the top of the chain. When I graduated from Florida Southern in Lakeland (Publix home base) many years ago, one of the speakers at graduation was a Publix big wig. After graduation when the speakers were mulling around, I bumped into him and he asked what I thought of his presentation. My comments..."Interesting subject matter, but I'm confused why you're here. You noted all your management worked their way up through the ranks. Do you think any of us graduating college here today are going to go back to bagging groceries for an opportunity to "work our way up the chain?"" Dude simply turned and walked away. I guess honesty isn't always what people really want to hear when they ask a question.

Local Publix store the other day was out of cream cheese. The whole shelf area for all brands of cream cheese was bare with one exception; there were a few packages of strawberry flavored cream cheese. Useless stuff. Who eats strawberry cream cheese? Weird.

You did and you were correct.

Yet there remain many who still do not see it.

I was one of those who initially supported the lock-downs. "Flatten the curve," they said. "It'll only be for two weeks," they said. Made sense. Between the virus having an up-to-fourteen-day incubation period and sick people too stupid to stay home when they were sick: It made sense.

Then two weeks turned into four. "They just want to make certain," I felt. That turned into two months. The curve got flattened. The emergency overflow bed facilities remained empty. Yet the lock-downs continued--with no end in sight.

That's when I realized I'd been had.

"My" government and the U.S. healthcare industry lost what little faith I had in them with their machinations relative to the Wu Flu scaredemic.

Sadly, all indications suggest you're correct. Again.

More directly on-topic: Every time my wife's gone shopping she's come back remarking "The shelves are even emptier than they were last time."

Our Governor is power hungry. The marina episode could not have happened at a better time.

For those here that might know, she stepped into a pile of doggy do do with the help of her hubby. Condensed version, we were under stay at home orders. Our Governor told us subjects we should stay away from people but we should do things to keep busy. Decorate your homes but she issued an emergency order stopping any store over 50k sq.ft. From selling paint, wallpaper, etc.

Go walk around your neighborhood were her instructions but police dealing with conflicting orders would stop and question what you were doing out. My S-I-L and two y/o grandson got one of those stops walking in the neighborhood. MSP was stopping motorcycles, originally her decree said that you could not ride a motorcycle, it was not essential transportation.

We were to shelter in place, if you were at a vacation home up north you could not legally return to your main residence.

Anyhow, many purported spottings of our Governor in the Traverse City area in violation of the emergency orders. And the first area that the restrictions were lifted, wow what a coincidence was the northwest part of the lower peninsula, where her vacation home is at. Who would have ever think this?

Anyway, when restrictions were lifted there was a rush as it was the end of May to get boats I the water. Governors hubby wanted their boat out, they were down on the list. The First Gentleman called the marina, finding this out asked (supposedly joking)Governors husband, does this count? Well, the marina leaked this out, their boat got put to the back of the list and I’ll bet the SHTF at home that night once that got to the news media.

I’m not a boater but if I get up to that area I’ll go in there and spend some money there as a thank you!

Now you know the rest of the story. She could have been our VP, at one time she was a contender.

Stores here seem to be stocked pretty good, other than the gatoraid shortage, which is probably stoked a bit by the return of athletics to the fields, from pee-wee to pro....

And the occasional shortage of a certain brand of pickles....

While we still like Publix, we switched to online Kroger Delivery service. So far it's been great, bill has dropped significantly as we no longer pickup stuff walking around.

Plus it's nice not having to pull the items, cart them, place on the belt, carry to and from the truck unpack.
