Good for a chuckle. Ignore the union plug.

Interesting that it was shown to be a War Office (pre-Department of the Army) production, and I wonder for what purpose. Sort of a postwar “Why we fight” thing? And “War Office” was anachronistic by a couple of generations in 1950.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with unions, and they accomplished many good things. Unfortunately, there’s a tendency for anyone or any organization that achieves unlimited power to abuse it sooner or later. What is surprising to me, though, was the plug for union membership in a production like this, but we’ve never been able to escape politics entirely.

Doesn't exactly fit into one of the 'Film Noir' threads, but it started with a beat you could dance too. The plot was lame, but the cinematography was 'swell'. Still, there wasn't much cussing, sexual situations, nudity, or violence, so it's at least family friendly. I'll wait until it comes out on video cassette.

An interesting take on a more innocent age.

Yep, that's how I remember things. My Dad was a shop steward. And our neighbor was some kind of union boss. And I know how Jeannie felt, it was about that age that I got the letter to my parents that I was falling behind on math, in danger of regressing a grade. Something finally clicked, and by the end of grade school I was placing ahead and had to be sent to a local high school to continue my studies. Weird how it all works out sometimes.

Ya know, I wonder about that. Not at all sure it was "more innocent" I think it more likely that it just wasn't published.

I'm guessing this is very accurate.

Well I think I like the idea of not having a bizillion cameras everywhere and Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Twitter, and YouTube capturing every minute of every day.

A little class, anonymity, reserve, politeness, and community would be swell.

Perhaps, then, too, a bit more public shaming was going on (ooo, she’s divorced, stay away from her, Jimmy), and people were more prone to be cowed by it?
Organizations could threaten without being taken down for a lawsuit the next day?
Stuff like that..
