This is not a big deal but excellent time waster. The placement of goods seems random and the workers are of no assistance. They are polite and suggest to keep looking. Is this due to slotting fees or is it just getting goods on the shelf.

I have no idea why that would be... but I've asked and have been pointed in the right direction. I guess it depends on the worker. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

The item locations at my local Samsclub seem to remain fairly consistent over time. Now Costco, on the other hand, moves stuff around all the time, IMHO. I recall reading somewhere that they do that to force customers to walk all over the store in the hope they’ll buy more. Maybe Sams is adopting the same philosophy?

No, not like Bill Clinton |
^^^^^ Makes sense, we only buy a few items regularly from Costco, they are never in the same spot

Most warehouse clubs move stuff around from time to time so you can't just go right to what you want. When you wander around, you're more likely to make impulse purchases. Harshest Dream, Reality

I've found at the Costco I visit that if I cannot find an item I ask at the customer service at the end of the checkouts (where you pick up stamps and small electronics). The employees there can see if its in stock and where its located in the store. Many times they will have someone go and get one for me. The only downside to this is having to go thru the checkout again unless the wife is there and we ask before we checkout.

I'm quite sure it is on purpose to keep you wandering around the store longer to buy more things. I have a few SIGs.

My Sam’s Club rearranged the store one summer while we were up north. I think it took me a year to figure out where everything was. Fortunately, it’s remained consistent since and I could draw a map from memory of what’s where there.

My Sams club doesn't move stuff around, yet. But you'd think they would allow you to search on your phone to find what isle an item is on. The employees are very helpful in that regard however. The Walmart search function tells you what isle something is on.

Costco doesn't have a Scan & Go app like Sam's ? I never go through the checkout . Scan the item with your phone as you place it in the cart . When your done , total it up and put your CC in . You get a code back to show the person at the door as you leave . It's so easy even I can do it .

I wait until I get to the checkout and tell them what I couldn't find, At both Sam's and Costco. " If you have them I'd like to buy them. And they run back to get the items. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

I'll be the "amazed contrarian" in this thread. Similar but different... I had to go to Walmart today for a couple of items, one I couldn't find. I approached one of the employees and asked for the item. Holy smokes, she was just about the friendliest person I've encountered in weeks, and was happy to lead me to the exact spot in the store where my item would be found. A happy day at Wally World, it was. God bless America.

One thing about HD or Lowes that if you can't find something while in the store, just look it up on your phone and it will tell you the aisle and bay it is in.

Thus the shortcomings of warehouse stores. Your membership pays for lower-prices on gross/bulk items from a limited selection. If you want service, grocery stores and department stores will exceed a warehouse store most every time. Most Costco/Sam's locations are arranged in similar fashion to each other but, there's always going to be that oddity that will be unique to that location that trips everyone up. Where's the pet food....? Printer paper? That display of reading glasses was here the last time I was here....

I swear I had something for this |
When I worked at Sam's Club, we couldn't do that with a majority of items because they were being switched out with something different or something we got a great deal on, especially in Electronics. The only thing that would constantly be changed and in different places would be the entire Electronics department and the Feature Wall at Customer Service would be changed out at the beginning of the month.

There is nothing to"catch on " to On more than a few occasions , the people that run to get what I want, Can't find the merchandise. They call on the radio or come all the way back to their computer to search for the item. They move stuff all over to keep you in the store longer for additional impulse purchasing. I do make an effort to find stuff , I refuse to play hide and go seek. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first
