My parents are in their 80's and asked about getting a BT speaker to put between their chairs to help with hearing the tv and not having to crank it up.

I was also thinking it might be good to go to a headset via BT so they both would have headsets and in the event one wants to read or nap, go to bed the other can watch TV without disturbing the other.

Appreciate some recommendations on any headsets in a reasonable cost range, they don't need $500 Beats.

I need to check if the TV has BT, I'm going to presume it doesn't so we'll need a BT transmitter, two headsets, all the better if the headsets have the ability to also BT to a smart phone so they can pick up calls and talk keeping the headset on.

Thanks.

Mrs slosig bought TV Ears and they seem to work well. She can watch whatever she wants with the the TV muted without disturbing the kids while they work on their homework.

I have a set of Sennheiser 120’s and bought an extra headphone for my wife. Very happy with them, the battery’s have lasted several years now. It’s nice having separate headphones. Our room has lousy acoustics and turning the tv up louder just creates more noise.

The set was from amazon, and are currently around $75.

Might not be of any concern at all but are they tech savvy enough to run it. Bluetooth can unpair or disconnect on occasion. If the power goes off can they get whatever you do working again? My wife couldn't!

The speaker by the chair does help. It was on an older TV but several years ago when working a shift different from my wifes I removed the back of my TV and hardwired in a stereo headphone jack. From that jack I ran a wire around the wall to a speaker on a table beside my recliner. I added a switch to the speaker enclosure. A simple flip of the switch switched it from TV speaker to remote speaker.

I have the Bose Soundlinks. They also have a mic built in so are great for phone calls.

Not Bluetooth, but I use a pair of these every night watching TV to avoid disturbing my wife, and gifted a pair to my 82 year old father so he doesn't explode the speaker on their TV. Smile They've worked terrific for both of us, and are idiot proof for dad in terms of operation.

Sennheiser RS120

For TV, you may actually want to skip Bluetooth and use a different wireless protocol, or at least be very selective about which Bluetooth headphones you choose.

The standard Bluetooth protocol has a lot of latency - the sound in your ears will lag behind the picture on the screen by a second or two.

Avantree Audition Pro headphones are great. I bought a pair about a year and a half ago and have been pleased. They are currently $69 before a $10 coupon on Amazon, can only use 1 coupon though. I paid $80 for them at the time, and I’d consider them a steal at $60

Very low latency, undescernable...

https://www.amazon.com/Avantre...J7QAHH58W5PN3J8AMP0V

And Avantree dual link Priva III dual link adapter $45 on Amazon so $175 for setup with two sets of headphones

https://www.amazon.com/Avantre...ar%2Bheadphones&th=1

They also sell the adapter with a lower line Avantree headphone in a combo for $90 so could add on a Pro headphone as a second set for a total of $150.

Personally, I’d pay the extra $25 and have the better headphones...

One thing I like about Roku is the some of the models have a head phone jack in the remote.

My neighbor has a Sony wireless RF unit, he said he had issues as described here with the lag on BT.

The tv is mounted on a wall across the room, running a wire for speaker/headset would just be a problem since they have hard wood floors.

The RF headsets might be the right solution.

This looks good, they have a dual headset option for $120, might be the solution.

Tossing this out just in case. If you get headsets that pair to the phone and the Bluetooth trandmitter, thats nifty, but to the beat of my knowledge you connect to one or the other during use. So, turn off bluetooth on phone to watch TV and vice versa....

Are there any of these headsets that you don't have to plug into an A/C outlet for the base to be powered? From some of the videos and descriptions it just wasn't that clear. I understand them having to be connected to the TV but I already have so many cords plugged into A/C, the TV, Direct TV receiver, the Playstation, etc. Too many cords!! I do understand you may need to recharge them once in awhile by the A/C like my bluetooth sets for music though and thats fine.

Added selling feature is you can wear them all the way out to the end of the driveway while putting the garbage barrels out. You look a bit silly, but hey, you won't miss any of your show when finishing 'chores' at night. Smile

Typically, the headset charges.

The Bluetooth trandmitter I have plugs into USB for charging. I pull that from tv. I got my transmitter at best buy for less than $40. It is a white rectangle about 1" X 1.5" X 1/4". Can't find name, but hey knew exactly what I needed. Mine plugs into rca outs on tv. Know what your audio outs are before buying.

I need to get another that is optical outs for a different tv.

After giving it some further thought, I have a couple of nice bluetooth headphones and after reading your post about a bluetooth transmitter I purchased the TaoTronics TT BA01 Wireless Portable Bluetooth Transmitter and going to pair it to my Bose QC-35's. It looks like just the ticket for either plugging into the headphone jack on the front of my LCD TV or the Direct TV box. So I can use the supplied mini cable to plug in directly to the headphone jack or using the supplied RCA cable for the Direct TV box, so it looks like I'm good based on the reviews I read of this device. As it is, late at night I turn the volume down so low on the TV and enable the closed captioning to read along so I don't wake the wife, this should be the ticket, thanks for the idea.

Just following up on the BA01 wireless transmitter I purchased and finally paired it up and plugged it into the Bose headphones. They do have a tiny lag but it's really not distracting or grossly noticeable. I'm more than pleased.
