Summers here, last day of School Login/Join

Well, yesterday was our last day of school. Summer time fun is here.

It was a bitter sweet day in a few ways. Bitter part was a good friend that was a bus driver that turned into an attendant retired after 19 years. He was a good friend and we spent a lot of time together on summer field trips of the summer program/camp. I will miss him.

Another bitter part another bus driver that was a roll model for me when I started and a good friend retired after 32 years of service. I will truly miss her! She was a great driver and a truly great person that her kiddos she drove loved her. The kids on her bus now, are the children of the kids she took to school when she started!

Another bitter part, war they started to teardown the original part of the county's original high school, the school I drove out of when I started driving 10+ years ago.

They are rebuilding it, to a new modern school that is going to be larger, and the whole campus is going to be redone.

The sweet part, all 10, 15, and 20 year drivers got our pins and were given cupcakes along with the retires.

No more waking up early in the morning and working 10 to 14 hours 5 to 6 days a week.

Now, it's a slower paced 2 to 3 day work week with 7 hours being the longest day. Which is well needed after the whirlwind of a school year this year has been.

Change is inevitable, but you don't have to like it. I will miss my friends. I'll still see them from time to time, but not daily.

Next school year we'll have most of the campus rebuilt. We'll have some new drivers ready to go. And hopefully, next year will run smoother then this one went!

Here to new friends, and new adventures.

Both of my grandparents drove a school bus after grandpa retired from the post office. They enjoyed it. My HS bus driver was one awesome lady. I never road a bus to school until HS. The rule was you had to live 1 mile from the school. My elementary and middle schools were .9 and .8 miles respectively.
Enjoy your summer!

Good luck with the new driver! I told my cousin that " I wasn't ready to go back to school " yesterday. It messed her up. LoL

I have the daycare/summer program/day camp to do. It's 2 or 3 days a week so I definitely won't get bored.

school has been out here for a few weeks. Not what is used to be, 4 days a week. Why bother really. The admin. is a joke. Many here home school which is good.

Sounds like you have a good district. Leadership is everything. Our district has none unfortunately.

Congrats and thanks for what you do.

Yeah, we have a pretty good district. Our schools are more towards the top of rankings.

Unfortunately we are losing our Superintendent and the Assistance Superintendent. Both have been great and the Superintendent hasn't been here very long, but has done great things with the district.

I have enjoyed driving the school bus for the most part. There are times I wonder why I get up early, pre trip the bus in the dark, rain, heat, and cold. To have some of the kids be rude, and disrespectful. Then you remember why when a little girl gives you a hug, or some little boy gives you a fist bump and/or high five.
