Survey - quality clothes washers?
our Whirlpool of indeterminate age has died. Heavily out of balance, quit/shut down, tripped breaker and shows no life.

Opened it up, started checking electric through main switch. No joy. Probably the problem, complex rotary unit.

Looking to replace whole unit.

Recommendations? Brands to avoid?

Speed Queen. The low end one, with agitator. TR3000 or some such. They redesigned in 2016 or so, and people hated them, so they brought back the old school washer with dials, not electronic touch panels.

Speedqueen. Yes, the brand you find in many laundramats. My wife did a lot of research when we needed to replace out Kenmores four or five years ago. She told me she wanted Speedqueen for two reasons: 1) They are durable and simple. 2) They get clothes clean.

They have proven to be as advertised. Not fancy but do a great job. We bought ours off Amazon.

Perhaps a tribute to the longevity of today's appliances.

I just replaced a top of the line, 10 year old Maytag set with a 9000 series from LG. Costco had a great price with an included extended warranty. The Maytag set was problematic for years.

No complaints on our Whirlpool Cabrio.
Going on about 5 years now, IIRC.

Kenmore to Amana HE, the plastic dials on the Kenmore disintegrated into tiny pieces and there was no easy way to replace a $10 dollar part. Simple is best. Lots of research equals less money spent and dump the useless frills. Brainpower works!

A Maytag Bravos XL matching set has served us well going on five years.

If you want a traditional small washer (3.5 cubic foot) and don't care about HE, then Speed Queen is the way to go.

Personally I like a washer closer to 5 cubic foot. I've have had Whirlpool cabrios (top loader) in my house since Jan 2014 and they've been flawless and they see 25 loads a month. I also have a set of Front loaders from 2010 Whirlpool duets in a 4 unit apartment building, they were absolutely flawless until a tenant broke the door latch, I replaced it rather than replacing the latch because I figured 9 years without a service call is a very good run for a unit that probably sees 40+ loads a month. The Maytag counterparts are just as good.

Did I say it was a rule? I provided a link to a thread with several answers to the OP’s question. Did you answer his question? Smile

I have owned my basic Maytag washer and dryer for the last 25 years, and they are both still going strong!! I just purchased the basic one with the dials, and no electronic pads.
