He's not required to "pass it up the chain of command." He's required to report it to the authorities, which he did not do.

He’s required to report it to the Title IX coordinator, which he says he did.

There are many reports that this woman is bat shit crazy too. She had filed many reports of being stalked by her Ex..and evidence proved he was at the university at the time.
There are many other claims against her. She never filed charges against him.. This is a good read.

And yet there are reports that include texts exchanged between Smith and his wife:

After Smith's interviews with ESPN and a Columbus radio station, McMurphy tweeted out a screen grab of a text exchange that he said was between Courtney Smith and Zach Smith.

"Think about the past ... think back to the cheating the lies and picking me up by my neck strangling me in Punta Cana and at our place in April. The abuse got worse bc u couldn't stand me catching u in ur lies," Courtney Smith wrote.

"I know!!!!" Zach Smith replied.

"Now u continue ur lies," Courtney Smith said.

"I'm so sorry!!!!" Zach Smith said.

"Such a slap in my face. Just stay away," Courtney Smith responded.

That would be nearly impossible to fake (sarcasm alert).

I’m not a fan of Paul Finebaum. I suspect most fans of SEC schools are. Here’s his take:

quote:
“I think it’s pretty obvious from Ohio State realizing that the moment they put him on administrative leave it telegraphed to everyone ‘he’s done,’ to Urban realizing he had to change the narrative by issuing that statement on Friday afternoon coinciding with Zach Smith’s just purely embarrassing interview with ESPN,” Finebaum said.

“And then, today, I think the betting line in Vegas is now shifting back toward Urban Meyer surviving somehow, whether it’s a two-game or four-game suspension; whether it’s a fine; whether it’s Urban Meyer sitting down with Rece (Davis) or Tom Rinaldi and crying on camera while Shelley looks at him and talks about how he’s the greatest man she’s ever known. You guys can spend plenty of time today coming up with the narrative, but I think we’ve all seen the movie before.”

I don’t know if Meyer pissed him off when he left Florida but, the rest of Finebaum’s take is even tougher.

Broad brush, as an Auburn fan, I can't stand Finebaum, he's his own biggest fan. He doesn't command the SEC's respect like most outside the SEC would think. He's a UT grad from Memphis and an Alabama homer. Mostly because he had a radio program based out of Birmingham, and that was the bulk of his rating audience for many many years. A good chunk of his callers were family members, or extended family members, pretending to be fans of various fan bases, who called in to stir the pot. Not kidding.

From the linked article:
quote:
“When we’re talking about arrogance, that seems to go hand in hand with Urban Meyer,” Finebaum said.
Swap those 2 names and that quote is still accurate...

A bit “broad brush,” but I wouldn’t call my take on Finebaum and the SEC definitive at all.

If Meyer comes back (which is always a possibility) he will know he is one bad fart away from getting fired. No second chances and....he better win a National Championship soon. OSU wont put up with another 31 to zip trouncing by the ACC or SEC in the playoffs.

IF I were Meyer I would be pedaling my wares as we speak. That is a huge weight on his shoulders, and Nick Saban doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

As long as Mark Emmert runs the NCAA, he won't have to.

Sounds like coach is going to get a suspension with some credit for time served. Whew! Personally I am quite relieved. I was afraid he was going to be the fall guy.

When Harvey Updyle called Finebaum after poisoning the Toomer's Corner oaks, you almost hear Finebaum in the background thinking "Damn! Why didn't I think of that!!."

Meyer gets a 3 game suspension. Sucks but better than it could have been.

While he could have done more, I think he did exactly what was required and don't understand either the moral outrage or suggestions (not here, in general) that he should be canned.

The AD carried the obligation to pursue once Urb raised to his level, and is the one that should be getting punished and is.

I doubt there are any real grounds to cut Urb loose under the reporting requirements, not wishes and shouldas, and wouldn't expect the school to expose itself to a zillion dollar claim by a breach of contract.

Note - I am not an Urban lover by any measure. I'm also not a defender of idiot wife beaters.
