It could have been an S, or a a sport. Not entirely positive. It was incredibly fast, until the fucking nanny took over at 79 mph. Some piece of dung at the enterprise agency set a speed limiter. I was so pissed I had the kid key, and not the parent key. Fucking volume was limited to 13. So I couldn’t pass a semi on I-90 in Washington, and the volume maxed out just slightly higher than the road noise. But from 0-79 mph, that little FWD was a rocket ship.

Convertible is totally not practical though.

I had a 2009 with a pro-tune from Tim at Cobb Surgeline. Turbo back exhaust, aftermarket intercooler, all high flow Perrin silicone intake piping, Greddy recirc valve, Bosch 1000cc injectors, etc. Aside of it pushing close to 400 at the wheels on a proper dyno, Tim gave me an eco setting. I could clock just above 30 mpg on a trip from Olympia Washington to Roseburg Oregon.

That said, when tuned to the race map, (which was my daily drive map) I averaged 8 mpg. But dear god it was fun.

Miata, practical... bit-O-stretch... But we love ours.

Let me relate a funny true story about our first Miata.

We made a run to the store for a gallon of milk and we called our daughter to see if she wanted us to run by and show her the new car while we were out. She said sure, but she needed a gallon of milk as well and as long as you are stopping at the store get her some too.

I said OK... but that will require two trips Big Grin

First car I bought with my own money was a 65 Rambler American ... very practical for a high school boy ... seats recline into a pretty comfortable queen size bed Wink

This is almost identical to mine, which was turquoise with a white hard top.

I'm really not a "kid" anymore ... but I haven't grown up yet either Wink

If it was a front wheel drive it's not a Sport. All Sports are AWD. That sucks they turned on the parental controls, hadn't thought about a rental agency doing that, but I guess it makes sense for them to do so.

Only ~2% of the Fusions are Sports. I see dozens of Fusions driving around for work, hours a day. I've only ever seen three in the last year, and I am keeping my eye for them. In my 3,500 member FB group there is like 10-12 Sport models. They are pretty dang rare.

Still an ugly dad car and it doesn't handle great, surprisingly well for the weight, but I like my ugly dad car.

The Induction Kit has a larger intercooler, all the hoses, an ST200 airbox with dual inlets and a new induction hose. It's 100% ready for the MR230 tune which would take the 0-60 time down to 5.9 seconds. Of question is whether it would void the warranty, that I do not know. Also don't no how it would effect fuel economy.

BTW, years back Hot Rod magazine did some poking around with the HT383, a stoker Vortec motor offered by GMPP. All they did was shave the valve bosses by 0.03 inch for more valve lift clearance and swap in a new cam. Boosted the HP up to 497 at something around 5800 rpm, note memory is fuzzy on the rpms, but not the HP. The problem is the transmission. To handle that level of power in a 4 speed auto from GMPP would cost about 12 grand for tranny and controller that last time I looked 3 years back. So I will just leave it as it is now.

I've stopped counting.

^^^ Nice. I'm waiting a bit before I do anything that affects the warranty. Still under 3k mi on it. Can't wait til I get tune and IC. I'd like to do more, but I doubt I'll be able to afford it.

Audi S6 Avant wagon, V8, 6 speed,

Caddy CTS-V wagon, if you can find one with a manual, if not the automatic will still work great. Remove the V stickers replace them with V6 logos, and go hunting for all the others, smile as you smoke them with ease....

I'll just throw this out, a new Corolla with the 2.0 engine and 6 speed MT is pretty darn practical and I sure find mine fun to drive. I like it now even more than when I posted this a few months ago.
https://sigforum.com/eve/forums...935/m/2510081564/p/1

It's not fast but it's peppy enough for me (I have other 2 wheel vehicles to ride if I need "fast"). It's cheap to buy, cheap to own, comfortable enough, shifts so smoothly, handles well, rides nice, all while delivering 33-40 mpg.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Would love either one but an S6 Avant is out of budget and the CTS-V wagons are like unicorns (especially a manual)and rising in price

RE: CTS-V

Rumors are that the CT5 could be getting a wagon variant, and possibly another V.
CT5-V is supposed to be quite a beast & available with a stick.

I'm a big fan of the GTI and the Miata's. Great handling, mileage, etc.

Back in November I sold my 2017 Camaro SS and bought a 2018 Porsche Cayman 718 with 2900 miles, a CPO car so like starting with a new warranty. I'm really enjoying the Cayman.

I miss the Camaro. Talk about cheap performance! One can get a turbo'd 4 cyl as well as a 6 cyl Camaro for pretty cheap. My 450 hp V8 model easily got 26-28 mpg per tankful.

I'd really look at a Miata or a GTI.

Good move on the Cayman, I looked at those and older 911s (even 15yo 911s can be had with under 40k easy) but the lack of luggage space kills it....just like the Miata, really wish my needs were different....

Gonna schedule a drive in 3 series diesel, already drove the GTI with the tune....it was a blast.

Need to find a manual 230i to drive. Found a m235i manual, a bit of a stretch on budget but may need to drive it to be sure.

Dallas county is still pretty closed but some dealers are open by appt

Drove my wife’s fiat spider today ( basically a Miata with a fiat nameplate) lots of fun. Not at all costly and took the turns at double the posted speed with ease ( truth be told she can push it to the limits better than I can) plenty of power based on its weight and looks good too.

Dew, grab your suitcases and head to a Porsche dealer. You’d be surprised, the 911 rear seats fold down and I can store some pretty hefty items between there and the trunk. Easily 2 carry ons + one more in the frunk, +a backpack or two.

I’m serious, if it’s in your price range it smokes anything else presented in smiles per mile.

Just saw earlier comment but will second this. There is an incredible amount of space between frunk, hatchback, on top of rear deck in a pinch and a couple cubbies if you get really desperate.

Had one since ‘15, not a single regret. Maintenance costs have been reasonable and repairs nonexistent.

I have a 2014 Wrangler that is practical for my outdoor activities, but less than ideal to get me to my 5 courts.

I got a Golf GTI in September and have been having a blast. Decent mileage, easy to park, and almost too fun to drive. I love this car more than a stage 2 tuned A-4 I had a few years ago. Great thread!
