Disposing of a dead refrigerator? Login/Join

Our Frigidaire refrigerator (that came with this house) died a few months ago & has been just taking up space in the garage.
All the fans seems to be working, and I don't have the time to troubleshoot it & throw $$/parts at it.

Seems most of the appliance disposal options around here require a refrigerant removal receipt.

Anyone, specifically in the Houston area, know of an alternative to rid myself of this thing?

If we didn't live in a gated neighborhood, I'd just put it on the curb & let the scrap metal scavengers snag it.

Check with your electric supplier, sometimes they have buyback programs.

All white good require a white goods fee. You should be able to take it to your local/municipal/County transfer station to be properly disposed of.

Call your garbage company, ours is a county run monopoly. They have all of their rules posted on the county website, I was surprised what they would pick up with request to them.

It needs to have a sticker certification on the unit for city pick up on certain specific days of the year.

I guess you pay someone to come out and haul the refrigerant away.
He puts a sticker on it,

And then

Some one comes to get the refrigerator.

Call a local retailer , they will know where to call

This is a great idea.... otherwise, you might go online and search the model and problem, you'd be surprised how inexpensive some fixes are, my freezing up side by side was $16 worth of bolt on and plug in parts.

Could be something you sell in the fridge shortage, put it on craigslist and Facebook marketplace, someone who can fix them might just haul it off or give you a few bucks..

Drive it out to some desolate stretch of county road, and look for the pile of other refrigerators and broken recliners. Leave it there.

Put it at the end of your driveway with a "free" sign on it. If many of your neighbors use a lawn service it will be gone in a couple of hours.

Almost what I do.

I store my powder and primers in mine...powder in the frig section and primers in the freezer section. It is insulated and the doors can blow open if needed

I hope this was in jest, because I absolutely loath people that do this. Mad

We have a business in our town that resurrects appliances for resale. Check for something like this.

Us rural folk just set it by the road with a free sign on it. The scrappers usually find and take it within an hour.

For city living, the utility companies often take them but you may find that they require them to be working.

Perhaps you or someone has Facebook and can join a local community group where you can offer it for garage pickup.

Consider the source. I’d be very surprised if it were not in jest.

If so, then a proper emoji would remove any doubt. From his past postings and the fact that he is a lawyer I'm inclined to agree with you. It's just that I really hate people that do this kind of thing.

Posted it on CL, we'll see if I get any bites.

Wish I could just put it on the curb, but being a gated neighborhood, not sure if the scrap scavengers get in very often.
May put it out with the trash tomorrow & maybe one of the lawn svc guys'll grab it.

In ny area just pop the door, cut the cord and bring it to the landfill.

ETA. it's funny landfill will charge you $15 to drop off a cathode ray tv but refrigerator drop offs are free.
