This article, upon a quick skim, seems to be another fear-mongering article, speculating on whether smaller bullets would reduce the number of homicides. "In Boston from 2010 to 2015, there were 221 gun homicides. Research suggests that one change could have lowered that number by 40 percent: smaller bullets." The article gets its start referring to a JAMA study examining weapons used in shootings in Boston.
What bugs me very quickly about the article is the illustrations. For instance: the illustration of a .22LR cartridge. It's a nice photo, end-on and "standing up," with a scale beside it indicating a [cartridge] length of about 2.5cm. Naturally, further down the article are similar illustrations of the 9mm and .45 cartridges.
I could be wrong here, but I believe that non-gun people who would read (or skim) this article would essentially be fooled into believing that the entire item shown in the photograph is the "bullet." "Gun People," of course, know that only a portion of what's shown is the actual bullet.
To be fair, my pickiness doesn't preclude the premise of the article: a larger bullet will do more damage. But still, I feel like there's a bit of misleading going on when illustrations like these are used.
Am I wrong?

I like how they insinuated that 9mm and .45 came on the scene in the 90s. Well I guess technically correct....the 1890s.
God don’t tell them about 10mm.....that’d Be one hell of a weapon of mass distraction for them.

I kid you not, back in 05 I watched a dvd movie wherein a gun was fired and depicted in slow motion was the entire cartridge flying toward the target. I forget the name of the movie now but I laughed out loud. Everyone else in the room missed it.

I skimmed that article last week. The graphs are too simplistic with "smaller - larger" descriptions. I clicked thinking there would be an actual caliber breakdown.
Shot placement has greatly improved over the last decade in this area. I noticed a marked increase in fatal shootings and more head shots reported over the last decade. Thank Hollywood for glorifying firearms. Jack Bauer with 267 on-screen killings ...

You know, one the one hand I like data, and would be interested to see some more statistics on gunshot wounds and the bullets used. On the other hand, I know that literally any data produced will almost immediately be used as an excuse to take something away from me.
