Yes. PAPPAS Family, not sure what the ownership is now but they have many great restaurants, went to their steakhouse a couple weeks ago. Always first class .

PappaRich that I posted about on page 2 is not part of the Pappa's Restaurant group.

I agree that the Pappa's Restaurant group is pretty awesome. Family owned and they pay cash for every restaurant opening. It's pricey, but nearly everything is an excellent rendition of their target genre:
  • Pappadeaux: cajun/creole. Mostly seafood.
  • Pappasito's: TexMex
  • Pappa's Steakhouse: self-explanatory
  • Pappa's Burger: self-explanatory
  • Pappa's Seafood: more traditional seafood so different than Pappadeaux
  • Pappa's BarBQ: this is the only mediocre restaurant in the group. I'd have to drive past 3 much better BBQ joints to eat there.
  • I've never tried 3 of their genres: YiaYia's (Greek), DOT (coffee), or Pappa's Delta Blues Smokehouse (elevated BBQ).

I would say this would be the correct answer, but I have some closer options for Asian foods just as good.

Pho Roswell was opened by a Vietnamese lady and her sister, the former having cut my hair for years. Her sister is the chef. Fabulous.

Mika Sushi is just down the road. You can omakase and let luck be your guide. Also fabulous.

Chinese? Acceptable variations around here, but nothing like the Chamblee area.

I know exactly where Joy Yee is. I’ve driven by that place more times than I can count. Thanks CPD, I’ll give it a try.
The original place I was talking about is called Gen Ho on Roosevelt in Geneva. If you get a chance it’s good food.

  • Thanks for the breakdown.

I've only been to Pappadeaux and really enjoyed it.

Unfortunately the guys I was traveling with wanted to stop at the Pappadeaux at the airport because we were early checking in our guns...we were shooting an IDPA match...I guess I expected too much of airport food

There are several within 10 minutes of our house; the better one delivers, so that's what we normally do. Prices are really good and so is food quality.

There's also the chain Panda Express less than 10 minutes away, and this one is surprisingly good, especially compared to the other mediocre ones I've visited in the past. A bit further drive gets us to "99 Buffet", and all-you-can-eat Chinese place, and their food is pretty darned amazing most of the time. They also have some American items on the buffet, and just about anything you could possibly want. The price keeps us from going there at this time, but all past experiences have been great, so they are on our radar for when times get a bit better!

Joy Yee has 4 or 5 places
Chinatown, University Village, Evanston, Naperville (out by you) and I think there's another one.

Not a bad price, and you're getting a PLATE of food! I've never left hungry!

A looong way! Nothing good in Montana; I'm going to Shenzhen next month and will gorge myself on good food there, and enjoy stellar dim sum in Hong Kong. Might stop to see friends in Taichung where the food is better than in mainland PRC

I have no idea, but I'm guessing it's far. There are no good Chinese restaurants around here. There are also no good Japanese restaurants around here. We have some good Thai and Vietnamese places though. We can drive an hour for good Korean food. Luckily we like to cook.

When I lived in the SF Bay Area, I could have any ethnicity food and it was usually excellent within a 5-10 minute drive. Here in Florida panhandle thee is 1 really good Chinese place with fresh ingredients and it’s a solid 30 minute drive. All the other “fast food” Chinese places are meh.

8 miles...Fantastic Chinese food w/ Zero MSG! Unfortunately, the prices have SOARED since COVID, and we haven't been eating it much (maybe once or twice a year!) since then. It was never cheap, and we didn't mind paying a premium for premium cuisine, but our usual take-out order went from around $45 to about $85, and we scaled way back since then.

Honestly we've scaled WAY on all restaurant food/eating out as it seems the prices went up everywhere, and at the same time, the quality declined almost universally as well. I generally get better food at home than in most restaurants anyway!
