Chappelle recently received the Mark Twain Award. Absolutely deserved because Mark Twain was a master at moving you deeply in one moment and then making you laugh hard in the next moment. Huckleberry Finn is a great example. It is a profound kind of comedy because it's true that life is tragic. I foresee a lawsuit in Mr. Chappelle's near future, and for his security detail and any other participants of the beatdown. It's not a matter of whether or not the guy had it coming. In a scenario such as this, an assailant needs to be subdued and then turned over to authorities ASAP. Once subdued, the entourage doesn't have the right to continue stomping some guy. Chappelle emerged from backstage and said he had been doing just that, and how he had wanted to do so in his career of 35 years. I find this whole thing simply amazing. I'm a 50+ year old heterosexual white man, making me the target of much of Chappelle's material. Not only do I feel no burning need to attack Chappelle, I find his shows...hysterical. Damn people, have a sense of humor.
