I have had Valentine Radar Detectors for years. They have saved my family $$$$ in term of early detection. Great at finding that speed trap in an area that false daily(number of bogey). Also awesome as the police car coming up from the rear. Love them and recommend them wholeheartedly.

That said, getting rid of them. Sold one on eBay and wife is going try a new for sale site for the other. Unless we are going on a really long road trip, you really aren't saving a bunch of time speeding. Besides, people are pretty much D!cks on the road. Leave early, set it on cruise, enjoy the radio/companionship of your spouse/watch your kids glue to their phones.

Best detector: Drive within the speed limit. I use a LIDAR. Just saying.

I ran V1's for years, after all the new radar crap on cars started hitting the streets it became apparent that falsing was going to be a problem for a while.

Still have 2 v1's on the shelf.

Now I use waze, it gives me alerts of cameras and known speed traps, and just try and run less than 10 over on the interstate.

Flow traffic here is 80 where the limit is 65. If you're doing the speed limit, you are the problem and the danger to others.

The last ticket I got that I didn't beat in court myself was near Death Valley. Cop basically admitted he was a tax collector and the state needed my money, told me to call one of those lawyers on the billboards in Vegas to get it knocked down to a parking ticket. I found one who used to fight tix for free just to deny the state the fine revenue. His brother had been killed by a drunk driver and the perp skated. So he really wanted to fuck the state whenever he could. He got so busy, he had to start charging $50 per case. But it worked and he got mine knocked down to a parking ticket to keep the points off my license. Yup, speed enforcement is all about safety and the rule of law. LOL.

The Waze app let me know about every police car I encountered on the interstate during my last 500+ mile drive to Kentucky. I haven't had a detector in a while but I'd probably buy a V1. Hard to defeat that instant-on Ka band though...

In my experience, you have to do something pretty egregious to not have an option of getting out of the points. Even if they write you for something that's not eligible for traffic school, if you go to court and don't outright try to insult the judge, you'll get the points knocked off. In AZ the state waives the points and even the fine if you do traffic school. Of course, the traffic school costs just as much as the fine and it's run by the state. So they're just blackmailing you to roll over and pay to keep them from telling your insurance company. Yup, it's all about safety and the law.

Active laser counter measures

Maybe I'm not explaining it right but it was a couple hundred dollars for something that I don't think would be an issue. All the local cops drive around with K bands on and state troopers use lasers so I didn't feel the upgrade was worth it.

That was a few years ago. Since then I got a Volvo SUV that is built like a tank and I rarely go over 75mph with it. I haven't hardwired it into the Volvo yet so it sits in a drawer somewhere and I don't really miss it. The only thing it was good for was letting me know if the local cops were around and frankly the local guys avoid tickets like the plague because the amount of paperwork they have to complete is a real pain. I'll get around to it someday just because I have it.

What I am interested in is laser countermeasures. There has been a lot of road construction going on around here and they keep changing the zones. Speeding fines are doubled in those zones and going 70-72mph in a 55mph is easy pickings for a trooper, especially when the state increases the fine if speed exceeds the speed limit by 15mph. I noticed they conveniently forget to move the "end work zone" signs so even if a vehicle is going 70mph in a zone that is devoid of any construction, it's still considered in violation because the state says so.

From what I've read, reflective surfaces are the primary target for laser and there's a company that sells paint that is applied to the license plate and headlights. When laser readings fail, other areas of the car will be targeted. The selling point is that the laser emits a beam 2-5 feet in diameter depending on distance and that a detector will pick up the laser to warn the driver so they can adjust speed while the operator has to target other surfaces until they get an accurate reading. It might buy a few seconds but that could be enough to avoid getting a ticket.

The product is called Veil G5 and is found here:

https://www.stealthveil.com/

Anyone have any experience with it?

Any other laser countermeasures that are effective?

I have an Escort 9500iX. They still sell it but they don't update it anymore - odd.

The updated version is the EscortiX which is supposed to process faster to deal with the "PoP"s - though the 9500iX has PoP alert capability.

It's come in handy many, many times.

I dont' know if they all do it but Escort has a database that everyone can upload their data to for red camera lights, speed traps etc, as well as blocking known stationary signals.

Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

Pair of V1’s been using a V1’s since 2001. Send them in every couple of years for upgrades especially to combat vehicle radar (adaptive cruise, lane keep, etc, IE false). They are like permanently upgradeable Pc’s. Love that about them. Will continue to use them. It’s one of the very few companies I trust 100%. They have treated me well over two decades.

+1, and per the other V1 post, here are the upgrades I've done and their respective costs:

-1st One = Serial # 32884xxxxx, don't remember year purchased

-2nd One = Serial # 19561xxxxx, traded in 1st unit for 2nd unit on 6june02, upgrade cost was $203

-3rd One = Serial # 28382xxxxx, sent in for POP update, upgrade cost was $75 plus shipping = $81.50, recd on 7june06

-4th One = serial # 68722xxxxx was in Cincinnati and traded in at their business. Cost was $309 w/ tax and done on 11june16.

Prior to using V1 I had an Uniden and then a Passport. The arrows on the V1 are indispensable!
