I have a Uniden R3 and an Escort 360 MAXc. The R3 has slightly more range but it really is a moot point if Officer Friendly is not just running continuously. Both have announcements for stationary speed/stop light cameras which are nice if you are in a strange city. The R3 must be updated from your computer to keep it current on its' data base. The 360c will update via WIFI when I pull into my garage with no further attention from me. The 360c has much better manners regarding the accident and lane change radars that are on newer cars. Also the 360c auto memorizes K band door openers after it senses the at the same place 3 times. I can now drive all over my city and get very few false alarms from automatic doors. The R3 can be trained to ignore those but it is done manually by you with a double press on the mute button. BTW the 360c has arrows if you like them. If I were to own only one it would be the 360c and the little bit of range I give up probably does not matter as I don't drive excessive speeds above the limit. I was looking to upgrade earlier this year after a bunch or research I went with v1 + bluetooth module + smart phone app JBv1 if you are android probably would have gone with R3 if I wasn't addicted to auto-learning mutes I no longer trust Escort enough to buy a high priced unit from them. People mention things like firmware upgrades being an advantage for Escort - I think my 9500ix got one in 8 years.

Fixed fee for $325. Always dismissed, or at worst a non-moving violation to keep insurance low. Worth it every time. Lawyer drives a Lamborghini ... car guy through and through. The app is a game changer. Having app communication with the detector lets you easily change modes and settings, something the v1's interface is terrible at compared to other detectors with multi-line displays. also you get much more detailed threat information - even more then other detectors. JBv1 is great, lots of things you can tune if you like to tweak, good defaults if you dont. The app even pulls from online sources while drive to notify of upcoming "hazards" The app developer is very active: https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?forums/210/ Depending on the age of your v1 you might be missing out on better Junk K and blind spot radar filtering https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?threads/7830/

Well, there is that. I certainly do speed a little. But I am not stupid about it, and don't drive on Houston highways at 90 miles an hour. I limit my speeding to amounts the police will tolerate, and I don't speed in places where I know they lurk. (See YooperSigs' post.) I haven't had but one ticket in the last ten or twelve years. Hmmmm. Instant lawyer? Not my experience. Most of my lawyered up victims got a plea to a non-moving violation and court costs. After attorney fees and court costs = $500 minimum. Why? Two words: Judicial Recognition. The majority of our Judges and Prosecutors took the same radar / laser training classes the cops did. Want to piss off the judge in your already overworked local court? Tell him you want to try a speeding ticket case. The only time I would lawyer up is if I had accumulated enough points to guarantee a license suspension. I wont de-rail thread any further except to say the speeding ticket game is one where everyone loses. The cops get a bad rep for enforcing a what is considered a minor offense, the public loses fines and higher insurance rates. But we do have a clear winner: The lawyers. They manage to do okay in the game. FYI: Every once in a while, I get pinched for speeding. I am still in the game! Speeding is one of the most useless judges of a dangerous driver. I would much rather have someone driving over the limit and always paying attention to everything around than someon going the speed limit while continually distracted. It’s a long lost holdout/moneymaker from the days of speed kills and we care about you so we are making the highway speed limit 55 because we care about the children.

Instant on radar or laser still warns me that you’ve popped the car in front of me. Again, how often are you the only car on the road? I don’t live out in the country so it’s a non issue for me. Retaining an attorney here costs $40-50, court fees are always in the $140-175 range. No where near $500 "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

Thank you! Cool resource for V1 owners. So, how does it connect? I see references to a “dongle”? Or is there a native V1 comm. chip? I ordered this today: Radenso XP $350. I started a thread about a year ago about GM SUV's driving my old detector nuts; so much so that I just unplugged it. This new one has GPS, bluetooth, settable speed ranges to auto mute, etc. Poking around town? Auto mute under 40. I know where the stupid red-light cameras are anyway. I don't drive trips much anymore so super long range is not so important.

Software for the V1 via a Bluetooth connection. Looks super! "Pacifism is a shifty doctrine under which a man accepts the benefits of the social group without being willing to pay - and claims a halo for his dishonesty." ~Robert A. Heinlein

Except it appears I'd have to load the software each time, and put my cellphone somewhere I could also see it (i.e. two devices now for radar detection). I'd like something simpler than that in one package. If I'm wrong on how this works, please school me. ----------------------------- Guns are awesome because they shoot solid lead freedom. You need the V1connection LE dongle. I think Escort has a patent on built-in wireless communication in a radar detector.

Not wrong if you want all the stuff the app can provide. However the voice alerts, filtering, and auto GPS muting features can work with the phone in your pocket. I always have my phone mounted on the dash with Waze up, so no change in behavior for me.
