Sitting in the showroom at my local Toyota stealership this morning is a very fun looking vehicle.

The graphics and colors scream 1980’s Toyota and I love it. I said to myself “awww no way!” When I saw it. Big Grin

It’s not inexpensive. For the money I think the TRD Offroad 4Runner in its “unique” color offerings would be the way I went if I got one but I am digging the heritage inspired graphics on this 4Runner. $50k!! Eek Nostalgia comes with a cost.

Luckily, it'll still be worth most of that 5 years down the road.
Looking at used 4Runners they hold their value really well.

Personally, I like the stripe on the grille, but not so much on the sides. And definitely not in black.

Considering a T4R to replace my Malibu, probably a used Limited, unless I can convince my mom to sell me her '21 Explorer Platinum at a steal.
There's a Canadian YT channel that did a TRD Limited & swapped some of the TRD OffRoad/Pro parts onto a Limited to get the best of both worlds (and supercharged it).

That's not a 1980's price...

Probably the same interior, too.

It's pretty trash how they refuse to update their vehicles (for the most part).

I've been looking at mid-size trucks and crossed the Tacoma off the list. It still has a 6 speed auto and drum brakes in the rear. Roll Eyes

Thank you for posting the pics, stickman! I had seen pics of it in white a month or so ago... the black looks a lot better.

God bless America.

I'm betting the 4Runner gets an update in 24 or 25. Still makes it a >10 year run.
The Tundra was the same, it ran from 2008 to 22 with minimal changes.
Sequoia just got updated too, so the T4R should be next, then probably a Tacoma refresh.

The 4Runner is still using a 5AT, not even the 6AT the Taco has.

I think Toyota sells a lot based on "I drove my Toyota to 250,000 miles..."

That's great but how many people really keep their vehicles for that long? And if you off-road it, I'm not sure you can get 250k miles out of it without significant repairs.

Or people rant about resale value. You buying it to resell or to drive?

5AT is a fucking embarrassment in the market today.

I think it's only been about 2 years since they went away from the 4AT in the Corolla. That's 1980s technology there.

Lots of T4r sales due to the fact it’s had few changes. It’s pretty well proven package aside from the nanny warning system added recently. The lower trim models seem to lack a bit in sound deadening and the engine only has just enough power, that is a problem at altitude. After adding a full roof rack and AT tires I get 18 mpg.
I had a Tacoma with that newer engine and it was miserable to drive. The transmission keeps the engine lugging and it’s resistant to the downshifting it takes to simply keep up with traffic. That would be a downgrade for the T4r.
I’d expect that any new refresh will have less ground clearance and end up like a mini-van with a longer hood. Pretty much like every other SUV has become.

'80s wheels, too. The look isn't for me, but those are good trucks.

I drive my cars until they quit. I had a Toyota that I got 225K out of, and was hoping for 250K.

That is the Heritage TRD Racing stripe pattern. Been used quite a bit since it’s inception.

That one is a bit over kill though. Looks much better on white as the stripes were originally done.

Everyone seems to gripe about these aged Toyotas but they sure sell a ton of them.

My 2014 Tundra is quite dated but it’s great. I don’t want all this fancy electronic crap that does nothing but Jack up the price.

4Runner and Land Cruisers are as solid as they come, a big part of that is because they are still made in Japan. Yes, Edmond, people do keep them that long AND wheel them. Mines a 2007 with the coveted V8 (among 4Runner fans). It’s been wheeled it’s share and is pushing 220k on the odometer. All original drivetrain.

How about both!

But it sounds like you are not a big 4Runner fan...

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Just about every 4Runner today is going to be around $50k. We went several years with the plan of trading for a new one every couple of years. The most we’ve had to give in difference for trading for a new one has been $2,500.

I see. They went the Japanese motorcycle company new model route: BNG (bold new graphics) or BOG in this case.

The colors scream 70s.
