I got a letter in the mail today stating that “As we all work to do our part in those difficult times, know that we are here to help. So, we’re applying a credit to April and May auto policy premiums”. Further down the letter it states I am getting a whopping $5 direct deposited to my account. I have auto, home, life and ATV insurance through American National and I have been using them for over 20 years. I find this refund one of the dumbest things I have seen. I sent my agent an e-mail asking who $5 would actually help, I cannot fathom anyone who was struggling financially that would be relieved with a $5 refund.

Dayumn! $5! All at the same time?

Kidding aside, That is approximately $5 more than I have gotten from State Farm.

I think Allstate started this a long time ago and the other insurance companies got the idea that they had to do 'something'.

Stupid. I'd rather they take the $5 for each of the thousands of people they are sending it to, and distribute to the smallest portion of those who actually need it. A small group of people receiving $1000 for example.

You’re lucky. We got a cancellation notice yesterday from G****o due to non payment. Even though they auto debited the payment on May 27 as scheduled.

Tried to tell the wife we should just pay the entire premium for the term since there wasn’t a discount/penalty but noooooooo. We’re not paying extra so let’s just keep the money in the bank.

Jeeez.

But you know exactly how that would go... some people who didn't get it would bitch and moan about not getting "Their Fair Share".

It would be a classic 'No good deed goes unpunished' situation. Hence, they do the legally safe thing of giving everyone virtually nothing.

20% rebate for me too. Which tells me that my insurance should be at the rebated rate all the time.
My Dairyland motorcycle insurance has been silent.

Good point. So it's really a PR move, not about helping people. Just the world we live in.

Yep, they don’t care about your $5. They want to be able to say “we gave back $x,xxx,... when America was hurting” on their commercials and social media. In reality they are going to give up a large number on paper when written in add, but it’s not large to any individual. I don’t fault them. It’s an investment in their brand/image and probably a good one.

I got $55 from Geico for my bike insurance, which is about 15%. Farmers says I have a refund coming, but I haven't seen it yet.

On another note, I LOVE replacing American National life insurance policies. Their premiums are insane. Anyone can beat them.

I didn't get crap, I would have been happy with a shirt that said "I survived COVID19".

My car is already registered as a pleasure vehicle, wife has put 30mi on hers in last three months. 10% off = $13.30 per month, not enough for us to get two combo meals per month at Mickey D's, so I'll take no discount over ten emails and five letters.

USAA gave me 3 months of a 20% refund IIRC. It added up to ~$100.
