But, it’s not about professionalism. Or law enforcement. Or even right or wrong. It’s about moving ideology forward.

Some of the crazy empathy is too appeal to the local masses and local politicians, so he can keep his high paying job. If he did not toe the line, they would find someone who will speak they way the mayor and governor want so they will get the big bucks.

Police chief in Minneapolis probably makes $300k/year, maybe more. You can buy a lot with that sort of money.

Sometimes I’m glad I’m old and probably won’t live to see just how fucking bad this place can get if we don’t keep the ball moving the right direction.

And yes, I think your pillow analogy, while disturbing, is also accurate.

This is covered in the book "Trump Derangement Syndrome" by a couple of clinical psychologists. The main underlying issue is their external locus of control belief. They believe they are mostly the victims of other people. Most conservatives have an internal locus of control, where we believe our lives are primarily directed by our own choices and talents.

For this dead woman and her wife, they clearly see ICE as "bad men victimizing vulnerable innocent people". It is impossible to accept that the dead woman had any control over the outcome of that day because it would destroy their belief system.

These leftists are convinced of their moral superiority and have been indoctrinated to believe conservatives have malevolent intent. Their entire self-identity is based on their superior humanitarianism. Thus any contrary evidence means, in their mindset, that they are one of the bad people, and that cannot be so!

This extends to the "ends justifies the means" mentality, including the use of violence or lies. Since they are so benevolent and their ultimate outcomes so wonderful, a few casualties here and there are acceptable. Even better if the casualties are some of those horrible bad people. If the casualty is one of their own, then the fault lies with the external victimizers not with the dead person.

(The book is ok, not awesome, but if you can borrow it for free from your library it is a quick read with some interesting insights).
