I am reminded of this lil' diddy from back in the day, sing it with me!

"Keep it in your pants Jimmy, get down and praise the Lord! You can't go whippin' that thing out whenever you get bored. Keep it in your pants Jimmy, until your dying day. And when you get a woody take it home to Tammy Faye!"

His misdeeds with Jessica Hahn dethroned him from the pulpit.

His financial misdeeds sent him to prison.

He always seemed sleazy to me.

Now every time I hear the news, or pick up a newspaper...

Seems there's always someone new, been sleepin' with Jim Bakker.

Compared to the crooks, swindlers, con men and charlatans we have today, Bakker was an amateur. Small potatoes.

It's really sad that so many people donated to that charlatan. I remember my own Mother sending money to that idiot Oral Roberts. Money she couldn't afford. His big thing was that God would give you a miracle in your life. Mom never got that miracle ...

Well, we often don’t see results on earth for what we give to The Lord.

Yes, Bakker was a fraud and a crook. However, God sees our hearts. Even though people gave good money to that crook, God will honor our generosity.

God honors us for our hearts and our intent - the fact that your mother donated to a crook is (IMHO, of course) irrelevant. She gave to The Lord. God will/did honor that.

God will/did hold Bakker (and every other crook) accountable for their deception and theft.

We don’t always see on earth what our good honest deeds to The Lord result in. Sometimes, we give and receive a raise, a better job, a financial windfall, etc. Sometimes, things DON’T happen - such as, my car won’t be stolen. My home HVAC won’t die and need replacing. I won’t be laid off.

God repays us in full for our deeds - good and bad. He won’t say “Well, you gave but he was a crook so I won’t bless you.”

I am sorry for your mother being deceived by that charlatan. She was not the only one.

“But do not be deceived - God is not mocked.” Bakker, and others of that kind, can fool man but NOT God Almighty.

God knows/knew your mother’s heart. He is faithful and She will/did receive her due reward for her generosity, even if we didn’t recognize it at the time.

When I get to heaven, only then will I know all that The Lord did and/or prevented on my behalf…

Oh, yes, Oral Roberts. Now there's a prime example of a charlatan. Witness his intelligence-insulting and blasphemous claim that if people didn't send him money, God was going to call him home. To me, that's as shameless as it gets.

Years ago I saw Tammy in a Burlington Coat Factory and she looked like Howdy Doody without freckles. 19 coats of makeup.

All of his good deeds are sullied by his outrageous lie.

He's fortunate that he pulled that stunt in 1987, before the rise of social media. If he were alive today and tried it, he would be mocked mercilessly.

"Oral says if you don't pay up, God's gonna call him Homie."

I had forgotten about the plea for donations or I'm going to die. He used to sell Holy Water and various little trinkets to raise funds. I still have a crucifix that Mom got from Oral's fleecing operation .

When Baker was released from prison he said he never felt closer to Jesus.
Actually it was HayZoos his large Dominican cellmate.

My paternal grandmother donated an unknown amount to the PTL Club (and possibly to Jerry Falwell). I remember being at their duplex that they rented up near Ohio State, when my dad was looking for something and found all the cashed checks. He went ballistic.

It was a lot of money, and to be honest they did not have a pot to piss in.

(Well, our status would be what you would have called lower middle class or upper lower class)
