Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed.
Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

Thank you Tac. I lived next door to this WW2 Marine who lost his dog tags during the fighting on Saipan. 70 years later they were found. https://www.hjnews.com/allacce...b0-0019bb2963f4.html

The article mentions that Tom Hanks should make a movie about this. He did, The Pacific, about a different group but same basic story. Much of it is based on Eugene Sledge's book, With The Old Breed, that describes in detail the horrors and conditions they endured.
As bad as the fighting was in the Pacific, the conditions were incredibly bad and often claimed more casualties from both sides.
