For shotgun with red dot sight and pistol grip. Also has a side saddle shell holder. (Benelli M4)

I.e., a padded, generously sized scabbard.

thnx

Edited to add: what about those gun "racks?" Are they reliable/secure? The gun also has a light on the forearm right where the rack holds the forearm in the picture. I'd have to mount the rack to see if the gun would fit.

I never could get those holders like you have pictured mounted well enough to secure anything. The Kolpin gun boot worked well on the ATV and I got one for my side by side. Just make sure to get one that will fit the gun and optics.

Kolpin gun boot. They make mounts for ATVs. I’ve used one for years, but just for the boat, truck, etc., so I can’t attest to the quality of the mount. But this is where I’d start.

I’ve used the classic two piece. Not sure if the side saddle would fit. I just noticed they have some newer models, bigger interior, one handed access.

How fast do you want/plan on accessing this what sounds like defensive shotgun? I'm not trying to be a smart ass but there's going to be compromises for either full protection or quick access to said shotgun.

That's what I use on my Honda Rubicon and is plenty secure for my Win M70 bolt rifle. I'm not racing to get to my hunting area and well the rifle is exposed to the elements but I only got so much space on my 4 wheeler for strapping deer, or climbers, feeders, and what not. The scarab is going to take up some space when attached. I would answer my first question then go from there. Hray

Edit to add I mount mine on the front rack not the handle bars. Not a fan of that.

I used to have one of those Kolpin racks that clamps onto my front rack. It worked well enough and had quick release buttons that allowed pretty quick access to the rifle.

It’s not always speed, I would have to go over varying terrain, water crossings where the ground was uneven, sometimes through foot deep holes, over logs, etc. The bouncing from that would loosen the mounts on the bar mounted rack. But, if it is over flat terrain at low speeds or quick access is needed those would work.
