Not totally true...you can have whatever liquids/drinks you purchase after going thru the TSA checkpoint and bring them on the airplane. We carry a small, empty water bottle thru the checkpoint and fill it up in the terminal.

I’d be curious to know how many times TSA has ever interdicted someone carrying an actual liquid explosive or accelerant into a checkpoint. Not hair spray, perfume, cologne etc. a bona fide intended weapon.

The reason for the drink ban is 13 years ago a terror cell arrested in London and Pakistan was planning to blow up seven airliners in one day by bringing two separate liquids in soft drink bottles to get by security, making the bombs on board by mixing the chemicals then detonating them.

The police showed a video that making a bomb like this can blow a pretty big hole in the planes.

So now ever after we are stuck with 3 oz liquids on plans. Roll Eyes

Yes, there is always a reason. The problem is that neither explosive component would be easily confused for most beverages. TSA could surely train their staff to identify water at little additional cost.

I have mixed feelings on this.

On the one hand, this woman exhibited animalistic behavior that is not acceptable in civilized society.

On the other hand, TSA has never been necessary (remember - no rules were broken on 9/11, as box cutters weren't prohibited items), represents an increasingly unaccountable .gov, and nearly every aspect of the security theater they provide infringes on basic personal liberty, if not otherwise protected rights.

So... let's call it a draw.

The TSA employee(s) who took the bottle from this uncultured loon- tell me how much control you think they have over TSA policy. Can we agree that they have absolutely no control over TSA policy? Not one single bit of control do they have, and you know this is true.

Whether or not you like the TSA or think this agency should even exist, is irrelevant. The TSA is a reality and that is all there is to it. These worker bees were simply doing their job, like it or not, and to put this on the TSA- when this incident arose from some loon who is clearly not fit to be out in public, interacting with others, losing their barely-controlled shit- is wrong.

How many times a day in airports all over this country does the TSA confiscate items from people being screened? This is as normal as can be for the last two decades.

One person alone is responsible for this ridiculous incident, and it's not a TSA employee.

Let's not let our dislike of the TSA cloud our judgement.

I gotta say this: For all I've written of my dislike of air travel these days, the last two times we flew (to Europe), the TSA people were both efficient and courteous. Heck, two or three of 'em even engaged in a bit of light-hearted banter with us on the first of the two trips.

Then again: We chose our departure times specifically for times the airport would be less busy. When we got in line that first time there was no line.

Agreed with Para, this is 100% her fault. You are warned multiple times that liquids/beverages are NOT allowed through TSA checkpoints. There are trash cans at the beginning and end of the cattle pen with signs. TSA agents make verbal announcements. Occasionally you'll get a personal reminder.

On more than one occasion I've enjoyed the beverage and thrown away a partially full container before presenting info to the TSA agent. I can only think of one case where I forgot I had it in the side pocket of my backpack due to a conversation and just handed it to the guy who tossed it out. No harm no foul. It's the rule.

Funny how many of these incidents would not happen if people just follow the rules or instructions.

That's funny!

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Pro Tip: You can fill the carry through water bottle with ice if you like your drinks cold. When you have the insulated tumblers it's pretty easy to get to the other side of TSA with plenty of ice for the trip.
I for one don't understand their logic on this but logic doesn't usually apply with TSA. For example, peanut butter is a liquid unless it's on a sandwich. In which case its fine.

SNL had a skit about the TSA training on liquids. It was pretty funny listening to them argue about whether mustard was a liquid.

Rules be rules. It isn't even a new rule. She is an animal plain and simple. I can't stand TSA but how can anyone defend this?

As for training TSA to allow water through that is a lot of effort for little gain. As said above, just bring an empty water bottle and fill it on the other side of security. Simple.

You really think it is a lot of training? You don't think most (all) humans are exposed to it daily?
