Sigmund Israel Executes Unprecedented Strike On Hamas Leadership In QatarThe very long-range Israeli strike on the Qatari capital Doha marks a major escalation in its campaign against Hamas following the October 7th, 2023 massacre.
Howard Altman, Joseph Trevithick
published Sep 9, 2025 10:48 AM EDT
Israel has carried out a precision strike targeting the top leadership of the Hamas in the Qatari capital Doha. This appears to be the first time Israeli forces have openly attacked in Qatar, marking a significant expansion in the country’s operations against Hamas.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israel Security Agency (ISA; better known as Shin Bet) issued a joint statement after explosions rocked an area of Doha earlier today. This all comes as Hamas negotiators have been considering a Gaza ceasefire proposal put forth by the U.S. government...

sigfreundThere’s a YouTuber I follow because he posts current information about things that don’t hit my other sources, but one of his favorite words is “escalation,” and can use it when I’m just thinking, “No, that was a response to outrageous, war criminal acts, not escalation.”
This, however, really does seem to be above and beyond what Israel has done before. It’s one thing to kill a murderer in his apartment with an explosive in his phone or bed, but something like military missiles involving a country like Qatar’s airspace is new, I believe. I can almost wonder if Qatar knew about it in advance, and it was, “Okay, but don’t kill any of our civilians.”
I’m all for killing murderers any way possible, but there have been some traditional limits in the past. It will be interesting to see how Qatar responds beyond the required condemnations.

Well, the official story goes like this:
quote:
Israel informed the US of its intention to strike Hamas leaders in Qatar when the jets were already in the air, Channel 12 reports.
Quoting several US officials, the report says that the US, which has a large military base in Qatar, identified Israeli jets heading toward the east and demanded an explanation from Israel.
Israel informed the US that it was carrying out an attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar.
The information was sent to US President Donald Trump, who gave an order to inform Qatar.
However, the report says that the information was sent when the missiles were already in the air.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/...veblog-entry-3638041If correct, you gotta wonder if Netanyahu has seriously lost the plot. Because this strikes at the core of Qatar's self-understanding which prides itself on its disproportionate diplomatic clout for such a small island nation, based upon its carefully balanced neutrality. This is the country that houses both the biggest US base in the Middle East with around 10,000 troops, and the political leadership of Hamas; has acted as a venue for Western negotiations with the Taliban and Iran; and frequently charted a different course from the other Gulf monarchies, including the critical reporting it allows Al Jazeera which is headquartered there. To the point there was a Saudi-led military blockade of the island in 2017-21.
Worst case, if they're really pissed about this they could tell the US to slap down Israel hard to their satisfaction, or clear out Al Udeid Air Base by the end of the year for the new Chinese tenants. Because if the American presence, the billions in American weapons they buy, the new Air Force One they gifted doesn't protect them from stuff like this, obviously they need a better bodyguard. Plus the Abraham Accords could unravel for the same general reasons - while again, the neighbors from Bahrain and the UAE are frequently at odds with Qatar, they also pay for US protection, including by entertaining friendly relations with Israel. Israel starts bombing the neighborhood while the US looks on impotently, there's no more reason for that.

GustoferGood. Kill every single one of them, by any means necessary.
And Qatar claiming "neutrality"? Really? They've knowingly harbored Hamas terrorists for years. Fuck 'em.

Fly-Sig1) Much of what makes the news is either flat out wrong or intentionally misleading. The timeline may be essentially accurate, but the context of who knew or approved something could be totally wrong.
2) It could be that Qatar gave prior approval of some sort, so that they can continue to appear neutral. It could be that the US told Qatar to accept this. I simply don't put any stock into the implications in the reports that Israel is a loose cannon.
3) I'm with Gustofer in an even larger sense: anyone who harbors Hamas gets zero sympathy. They chose a side, now they get whatever that choice brings them.

corsairI'm going to guesstimate that Qatar knew about this as did Saudi's. While Saudi and Qatar are on the opposite sides of the Islamic religion-spectrum, they also know the importance of stability and not having crazies in your midsts as its not just bad for business but also eventually threatens your own government & society. Hamas' leadership has been hanging out in Qatar for over a decade now, and last year, during the Biden-admin they wanted them out.
This strike reminds me of
OP Wooden Leg back in 1985 Israel took-out PLO leadership in Tunisia...and this is after the PLO had been squeezed out of Lebanon and previously kicked-out of Jordan where they attempted a civil war to overthrow the king. Moral of the story- Don't harbor Palestinian leadership, it's nothing but headaches.
Qatar ends mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas, citing lack of good-faith negotiations quote:
Qatar has halted its mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas, citing a lack of willingness from both sides to engage constructively, according to a diplomatic source briefed on the matter.
Qatar’s participation hinged on both parties demonstrating real interest in resolving the conflict, according to the diplomat. Qatari officials, however, concluded that recent negotiation efforts have been more focused on optics than peace efforts.
On the outs with Qatar, Hamas appears to change tack at the top, but not in Gaza quote:
This month, Qatar announced the suspension of its mediation role between Israel and Hamas concerning a potential Gaza ceasefire and hostage release. At the same time, Doha refrained from confirming whether it would close Hamas’s office in the country, despite requests from the Biden administration to do so.
Qatar has hosted Hamas officials in Doha since 2012, when the terror group moved its headquarters out of Damascus amid the Syrian civil war; Washington had urged Qatar to serve as a conduit to the terror group, much as the Gulf state had done by hosting a Taliban embassy.

sig2392The US has an early warning system and multiple missile defense systems in Qatar.
No way the the US didn't see them coming and I would bet that the US was told in advance.
I think Qatar want this over as much as the rest of the world.
I think this is their way of telling Hamas to give it up without picking sides.

I was doing ok with that statement there until I read the words 'carefully balanced neutrality'. Harbouring members of the most horrendous bunch of murdering pricks since ISIS left stage right can hardly be construed as 'neutrality' of any kind.
Or have I somehow misunderstood the meaning of 'neutrality'?

Oh yeah -
peninsula. Got thrown by the translation of Al Jazeera.
Meanwhile you can tell the sensitivity of the issue from the official US reaction.
quote:
The Trump Administration slams Israel for targeting Hamas leaders inside the territory of US ally Qatar, while stressing that eliminating Hamas is a worthy goal.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sets out the administration’s position in a prepared statement, in which she says US President Donald Trump told the Qataris of the impending Israeli strike after he learned about it from the US military. Trump also spoke to Netanyahu and to Qatar’s leaders after the attack.
Reading from the statement, she begins by saying the White House was notified “by the US military” ahead of the attack.
She then condemns Israel, saying that “unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a sovereign nation and close ally of the United States that is working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker peace, does not advance Israel’s or America’s goals.”
However, she says, “eliminating Hamas, who have profited off the misery of those living in Gaza, is a worthy goal.”
She says Trump, on learning of the imminent strike, immediately told special envoy Steve Witkoff to inform the Qataris “of the impending attack, which he did.”
Trump “views Qatar as a strong ally and friend of the United States and feels very badly about the location of this attack,” says Leavitt.
Trump wants all of the hostages in Gaza and the bodies released, she adds, and “this war to end now.”
Noting that Trump called Netanyahu after the attacks, she continues: “The prime minister told President Trump that he wants to make peace, and quickly.”
Trump believes “this unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for peace,” she says.
Trump also called the Qatari emir and prime minister to thank them for their “support and friendship” with the US, and he “assured them that such a thing will not happen again on their soil.”

Well, the precision strike did not damage the Lusail International Ciruit (MotoGP), the Luasail Hot Air Balloon launch facility or the Lusail Shooting Range, so I am OK with it.

wrightdI'm watching some news that broke at 10AM this morning, that said Israel has a difficult job to separate 2 million civilians from the remaining combatants, and it's known how that could be accomplished.
I think it's too late to mess with that, just kill all the soldiers wherever they are, and forget about collateral damage, since the citizens support their Hamas soldiers and would slit the throat of any Israeli that walked down the street.
Why try to save the people who hate you and will kill you if they ever get the chance.

AglifterI mean…. Yes, this seems a bit messy for Israel.
From what I was told, this was very close to the high end shopping area of Qatar.
I have no doubt Israel told the U.S. - if they tried to be “sneaky” about it, and box DJT in…
Then they get what they get.

CooksterThe Hamas terrorist leaders who were see in Qatar celebrating the 10/7 attack, sealed their own death warrants right then and there.
When I watched this video a day or so after the attack, I knew that it was only a matter of time before they would be ‘eliminated’ by Israel.
Because names have not been released yet, to my knowledge, that some of the persons seen in the video are likely no more.
