It's a brilliant idea for a major news outlet to start restricting access to news items, to those who are "signed up" and logged in to their site.

When they began doing this a couple of months ago, it was only on puff pieces- bullshit stories about entertainers or six ways to prevent premature aging or the like. Now, though, they have placed this restriction on current news and just yesterday, they had their headline story, marked "BREAKING NEWS" and it had this restriction on it. It seems to me that eventually, all of their content will require being logged in to view.

I know I'm not alone when I say that I am not "signing up" for JACK SHIT. I've already started using Twitter I SAID TWITTER as my primary news source (outside of the always reliable SIGforum, of course).

It seems to me that this move by FoxNews will serve to drive away online viewers but it's their site.

If that wasn't bad enough, there's this:

https://twitter.com/GenFlynn/s.../1745872551648141598

https://twitter.com/realMikeLi.../1745878792822829126

I stopped watching FoxNews a long time ago, haven't tuned in to it since I don't know when, but I continued to use their website and I would continue to do so if they didn't have their head shoved so far up their ass.

This isn't about watching their channel. It's about their website. I haven't turned on FNC since November of 2020. But I do still use their website for news. Or I should say I used to use it. I literally swore the website off two days ago for the exact same reason Para is talking about.

Just a couple of weeks ago, it was only a couple of news stories that were restricted. Then on Wednesday evening while I was in the ship's control room waiting on maneuvering, I pulled up fox to check the news. The first FIVE stories I clicked on wanted me to provide my email to continue. ENOUGH!! I closed the website and won't be going back. I'm completely finished with them now.

This whole part about now needing to give the website an email - so they can spam me!! - to read 80% of the articles is driving me away at light speed

Not to derail the thread, but an interesting quote from Gen. Flynn's tweet above:

"If we have an election in NOV 2024, ..."

Been saying the same for awhile now and everyone thinks I'm crazy. Apparently I'm not alone.

And screw FNC. I don't watch their channel, I don't look at their website as it's too full up pop-ups and self starting videos, and I deleted them from my Sirius/XM radio. They've gone off the deep-end and it's sickening. I was rather surprised to see many of the "stars" there not only continue their employment with them, but start spewing the vile communist propaganda. Doocy, Kilmeade, Hegseth, etc.... All (and a lot more) folks who I assumed were at least Libertarian if not solid conservatives. Nope. Fuck 'em. They're either leftists or unprincipled conservatives. Not much difference between the two these days.

Fox News is just as liberal as MSNBC now. They lost me as a viewer when they started distancing themselves from Trump and giving more airtime to RINOs.

Agreed. Most articles require an email address to read them.
I tried putting in example@example.com as an address and was then asked to confirm the email message sent to the address I supplied or something like that.
Mad

The funny thing is if you put the headline into a search, it will show up with the article from fox news showing the text on MSN.com.

It's not only Fox, the mainstream-media-manipulation is only going to get worse.
The Execs at Fox do not want Trump to succeed just like CNN and others.
Kind of funny though, Trump is what makes them all get views and yet they cut their own noses off all the time.
Good news is other forms are popping up with success.

ISTR that was about the time Fox "News" started going down the crapper, in general, was it not?

Anyway...

I'd see links to Fox "News" here, go to view the articles, and, nine-times-out-of-ten they'd insist I disable my ad blocker to continue. I'd turn off uBlock Origin. Same story. Then I'd look at Brave Shields. Sure enough: That was blocking multiple trackers from their site.

That's what they wanted me to disable: Blocking tracking cookies.

Nope.

Got tired of that nonsense, so Fox "News" went on my custom site block list. If I inadvertently click on a Fox "News" link, uBlock origin comes up and tells me "Blocked."

I quit opening Fox News links a year ago after they started blocking access because I have an ad blocker installed in my browser. Daily Mail, same thing. Some others put up the same sort of request to whitelist them or turn off the ad blocker, but will show the content if I click off the popup.

So what if I were to create a new email if it were available, something like UpYours@blowme.com ???

I could go there to confirm things. Maybe.

Five of five for me this afternoon.

Hey, FoxNews. Either you want to share the news you've gathered, or you don't. And when you make people pay or sign up or stand on their heads to read your stories, you're effectively saying you don't.

Jerks.

God bless America.

It is owned by Fox News Media, which itself is owned by the Fox Corporation.
The company is controlled by the Murdoch family via a family trust with 39.6% ownership share, and by Rupert Murdoch himself to the effect of almost 40%.

Rupert Murdoch is chair, while his son Lachlan Murdoch is executive chair and CEO. In September 2023, Rupert Murdoch announced that he was stepping down as the chairman of Fox Corporation, effective November 2023.

The channel was created by Australian-American media mogul Rupert Murdoch in 1996 to appeal to a conservative audience, hiring former Republican media consultant and CNBC executive Roger Ailes as its founding CEO.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
